Job summary

Camberwell Grammar School in Melbourne is seeking a Casual Music Assistant to join the Music Department, providing administrative and operational support to the Music School Administration team within a busy school environment.

You will help schedule around 700 weekly instrumental lessons, assist with room bookings, event logistics, concerts, and the department library, while learning from an experienced team. 12-month term with a collaborative campus culture.

Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and enthusiastic casual Music Assistant to join our Music Department, providing administrative and operational support to the Music School Administration team in a busy and engaging school environment.

This is a valuable opportunity to learn from an experienced Music administration team and develop practical and transferable skills in administration, scheduling, logistics and event support. The role will provide insight into the work that takes place behind the scenes of a busy school Music Department and valuable experience that can support future opportunities across performing arts administration, school administration, orchestral management, festival administration and other arts management related areas.

Working under the direction of the Music School Administration Manager and alongside the Music Administration Assistant, you will support the day-to-day administration of a comprehensive school music program. A key focus will be assisting with the administration and scheduling of approximately 700 weekly instrumental music lessons, alongside supporting room bookings, lesson changes, event logistics, concerts, performances, the Music Department's library and general administration.

It is envisaged that this role will be for a period of 12 months.

This role involves active participation in maintaining and promoting child safety and wellbeing across all aspects of school life. Your duties and responsibilities include:

Ensuring Safety:

  • Actively identify, assess, and mitigate risks to child safety within the school environment, both physical and digital.
  • Implement the school's child safety policies and practices to safeguard students from harm.

Fostering Wellbeing:

  • Create a positive and inclusive environment that supports the emotional, social, and academic needs of all students.
  • Work collaboratively with students, families, and colleagues to promote a culture of respect, inclusion, and safety.

Responding to Concerns:

  • Monitor and report any concerns or incidents regarding child safety to the school's Child Safety Officer or designated authority.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of all child safety concerns or incidents.

Engaging with Diverse Needs:

  • Support children from a variety of cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to meeting the unique needs of students with disabilities or other specific challenges.

Modelling Ethical Conduct:

  • Exhibit professional behaviour that aligns with the school's values and child safety standards.
  • Lead by example to foster a culture of trust, respect, and accountability.
