Job summary

A BASIT GORAYA PTY LTD in Geelong is seeking a qualified Motor Mechanic (General) to diagnose, service and repair passenger and light vehicles at our workshop on Fyans Street. You will work to manufacturer specifications and safety standards.

The role offers full-time hours (38 per week) with a salary of $80,000 plus superannuation and opportunities to develop new skills within a supportive team environment.

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent.
• At least 1 year of relevant practical experience as Motor Mechanic.
• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills; good communication.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults in engines and vehicle systems using diagnostic equipment.
• Inspect engines, transmissions, braking, steering and suspension for wear or damage.
• Dismantle and inspect engine assemblies and components for repair.
• Repair or replace defective components and test for correct operation.
• Perform scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance, including oil changes and filter replacements.
• Diagnose and repair faults in fuel, ignition, cooling and exhaust systems.
• Carry out repairs to brakes, steering and suspension systems.
• Perform engine tune-ups to improve performance.
• Conduct road tests and final inspections to verify repairs and safety.
• Maintain accurate records of diagnoses, repairs and parts used.
• Use workshop tools and equipment safely.
• Maintain a clean, safe workshop and comply with WHS requirements.

Task & responsibilities

• Diagnose mechanical and associated electrical faults in engines, transmissions and other vehicle systems using computerised diagnostic equipment and testing devices.
• Inspect engines, transmissions, braking, steering, suspension and other mechanical systems to identify worn, damaged or defective components.
• Dismantle and remove engine assemblies, transmissions and other mechanical components for inspection and repair.
• Repair or replace defective components, reassemble mechanical systems, and test and adjust them to ensure correct operation.
• Perform scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance, including oil changes, fluid checks and filter replacements.
• Diagnose and repair faults in fuel, ignition, cooling and exhaust systems.
• Carry out repairs and adjustments to brakes, clutches, steering and suspension systems.
• Perform engine tune-ups and adjustments to improve vehicle performance and reliability.
• Conduct road tests and final inspections to verify repairs and vehicle safety.
• Maintain accurate records of diagnoses, repairs, servicing and parts used.
• Use workshop tools, machinery and diagnostic equipment safely.
• Maintain a clean and organised workshop and comply with workplace health and safety requirements.

Qualification & experience

• Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology, or an equivalent relevant automotive mechanical trade qualification.
• At least one year of relevant practical experience as a Motor Mechanic.
• Strong mechanical diagnostic, fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Experience using computerised vehicle diagnostic and testing equipment.
• Ability to complete servicing and repairs independently and work effectively within a workshop team.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe, high-quality workmanship.
• Good communication and organisational skills.
