Job summary

University of Technology Sydney (UTS) is seeking a Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Specialist for a two-year contract. The role focuses on designing MEL frameworks, measuring impact in AI policy and governance, and communicating findings to government, industry and civil society.

It is predominantly on-campus with one day remote. The successful candidate will engage senior stakeholders, develop qualitative and quantitative metrics, and deliver day-to-day MEL activities with clear reporting

• Experience applying MEL thinking to policy, governance, AI, and technology development.
• Ability to engage diverse stakeholders including senior leaders in industry and government.

About your role

HTI is seeking a Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Specialist to join the team on a two-year contract. You will play a key role in assessing and maximizing the impact of HTI’s projects and initiatives, with an initial focus on our work in the Australian AI policy, regulation and governance space. The MEL Specialist will lead the design, development, and application of MEL frameworks, focusing on understanding, measuring, and maximizing HTI’s impact in shaping how Australia regulates and manages AI in practice. This includes developing qualitative and quantitative metrics, driving best-practice for monitoring program performance, and engaging with senior stakeholders from across government, industry, and civil society to both assess and communicate our impact. You will deliver the majority of day-to-day MEL activities for HTI and translate findings from those activities into meaningful, resonant reporting.

With examples, please address the below four (4) key selection criteria within your 2-page cover letter;

• Demonstrated skill in the design, development and delivery of MEL strategies and frameworks
• Experience in the application of MEL thinking in areas relevant to HTI, including emerging technologies, responsible artificial intelligence, public policy, corporate governance, and technology development
• Ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including senior leaders of industry and government organisations, and internal HTI team members
• Proven capacity to effectively communicate key findings from MEL activities, both through formal and informal reporting, and the development of compelling impact narratives

Remuneration & Benefits

A competitive remuneration package is on offer for the successful candidate. This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary. This position is full-time and appointment will be made on a fixed term basis for 2 years. This role is predominantly performed on campus four days per week, with the option to work one day remotely.
