Job summary

NEPEAN Conveyors in Mackay, QLD invites motivated applicants to join the 2027 Apprentice Mechanical Fitter intake. This fixed-term apprenticeship runs up to four years, offering hands-on learning in assembly, maintenance and overhaul of underground mining equipment, with real tools and machinery in a busy workshop.

You will read blueprints, operate workshop tools, and learn to service gearboxes, conveyors and hydraulic systems.

Qualifications

• Completion of Year 12 is required.
• Previous school-based work experience or a Certificate in Engineering Pathways will be highly regarded.
• Applicants should be enthusiastic, reliable and safety-minded with mechanical aptitude.

Responsibilities

• Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to understand job requirements.
• Operate workshop tools, machinery and equipment used in mechanical fitting.
• Assemble, disassemble and overhaul underground conveyor components, gearboxes and drive assemblies.
• Perform hydraulic fault finding and maintenance of hydraulic power packs.
• Plan work, compile material lists and record job hours in a workshop environment.
