Job summary

South32's Cannington operation in northwest Queensland seeks a Laboratory Technician for a permanent full-time role on a 7/7 day/night shift roster, FIFO from Townsville or Brisbane or DIDO from the Mount Isa region.

You will perform sample preparation, analysis and reporting across production, metallurgy, geology and marketing streams to meet standards and turnaround times, while maintaining Safe Work Instructions and lab equipment.

Qualifications

• This role requires a disciplined, methodical approach to maintain accuracy and consistency.
• Strong teamwork and effective communication within a mining lab environment.
• Experience in a commercial, mining or production lab is desirable; base metals context preferred.
• Familiarity with key laboratory equipment (WD‑XRF, ICP‑OES, ISE) is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Carry out required sample preparation, analysis and reporting across streams to agreed standards and turnaround time.
• Review and maintain Safe Work Instructions and operating procedures.
• Maintain the Laboratory and its equipment in a safe and reliable state.
• Manage reagents, consumables and QAQC remediation for out-of-spec results.
