Job summary

NES Fircroft is seeking a Mining Engineer for a NSW operations role. You will contribute to practical mining solutions, integrating extraction, backfill, tailings and rehabilitation plans for the site.

You will work with a team to deliver production planning, schedules and budgets, while maintaining design files and communicating plans across the site. FIFO roster applies from Australia, with potential travel to other sites.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mining Engineering.
• 1–2 years experience in operations and mine planning.
• Strong short- and medium-term production planning, budget preparation and rehabilitation knowledge.
• General understanding of mining and mineral processing.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• High-level computer literacy in mine‑planning software.
• Experience with Deswik mine‑planning software or similar.
• C Class Driver's Licence.

Responsibilities

• Provide short- and medium-term production planning expertise for the mine.
• Provide mining development, extraction and pad designs for the mining unit.
• Prepare detailed short- and medium-term schedules and budgets.
• Provide direction and plans for topsoil and overburden stripping.
• Develop scheduled tailings management plans.
• Deliver monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
• Develop Mine Engineering procedures to standardise site mine-planning practices.
• Maintain the master directory of current design files, models and as-built Deswik data.
• Communicate mine plans effectively across the site.

Department: NSW Operations Section: Technical Services Location: NSW Reporting Relationships Direct Supervisor: Senior Mining Engineer or Technical Services Manager Functional Supervisor: Senior Mining Engineer or Technical Services Manager Scope of the Position Annual budget responsibilities include operating, labour and capital expenditure. The position has control responsibility for one site. Main Purpose of the Position The Mining Engineer provides technical expertise on practical mining solutions to support the efficient delivery of the NSW mining operation objectives. The role is responsible for communicating, maintaining and integrating the consolidated mining extraction, backfill, tailings and rehabilitation plan for the mine site.

Key Accountabilities

Health Safety and Environment

• Understand and comply with the company's Environmental Health and Safety Policy and standards.
• Promote a positive safety culture and environmental responsibility among company and contract personnel through safety visits and inspections.
• Report personal injuries and incidents and assist with investigations as required.
• Support and participate in safety and environmental initiatives.
• Ensure appropriate risk assessments are completed.
• Take accountability for personal safety, the safety of others and protection of the environment.

Delivery

• Provide short- and medium-term production planning expertise for the mine.
• Provide mining development, extraction and pad designs for the mining unit.
• Prepare detailed short- and medium-term schedules and budgets.

Contractor Management

• Provide the rolling schedule to the contractor.
• Ensure contractor claims are accurate and error‑free.
• Ensure the contractor honours short- and long-term schedules.
• Provide technical expertise in managing the mining contract.
• Manage performance against the rolling schedule to achieve budget outcomes.

Commercial

• Develop annual production, tailings and rehabilitation budgets and forecasts.
• Deliver monthly, quarterly and annual budget reports detailing actual performance against budget and forecast.
• Identify and address risks that may affect budget or forecast attainment.
• Implement strategies that continually improve the efficiency and profitability of the mining operation.

Rehabilitation

• Provide rehabilitation plans and schedules.
• Optimise rehabilitation plans to achieve the maximum direct return.
• Design final rehabilitation surfaces.

Development

• Maintain company competencies and apply industry best practice through scheduled training and ongoing professional development.
• Monitor evolving technology relevant to the company's mining operations through ongoing review of industry literature and operations.
• Work towards obtaining a Quarry Manager's ticket.

Continuous Improvement

• Contribute to a constructive environment within the Technical Services team.
• Demonstrate how the Mining Engineer role adds value and continually seek business improvements.
• Identify efficiencies through ongoing review and optimisation of mine plans and schedules.
• Identify impediments to efficient earthmoving practices and minimise their impact through planning.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

Special Features of the Job

This role is offered on a FIFO basis from Adelaide or Melbourne. The roster is eight days on and six days off. Travel and work at other sites or company locations may be required to meet business needs. Additional hours may be required depending on workload.
