Consultant (Mining Engineering)

SRK Consulting is an international, independent, employee-owned practice providing integrated consulting services to the resources sector. Our capability spans mining, geotechnical engineering, geology, resource estimation, exploration, tailings, heap leach and waste management.

The Role

We are seeking a Mining Engineer with an open pit mine planning background, ideally combining operational and consulting or study experience. Exposure to a range of commodities is well regarded.

SRK's mine planning service offering spans operational support to mining clients, technical studies from scoping through to feasibility, and Ore Reserve estimation and public reporting. You can expect to work across several projects a year, spanning different commodities, mining methods and jurisdictions.

This is a role with room to grow. You will develop both your technical skills and your professional network, working alongside experienced practitioners across disciplines. As you build experience and registration, the path opens toward Competent Person and Qualified Person sign-off authority, and in time toward independent technical review and due diligence work for lenders, investors and boards.

As a Mining Engineer with SRK

You will deliver consulting services to clients locally and internationally, applying and extending your technical knowledge under the guidance of senior colleagues to produce timely, well-reasoned project work.

You Will Be Expected To
  • Contribute to mine plans, including mine designs and schedules for open pit projects, from optimisation through to life-of-mine, using industry-standard planning software.
  • Provide mine planning and technical inputs to studies across the scoping, pre-feasibility and feasibility stages.
  • Support clients with operational level mine planning, including short and medium-term planning, reconciliation and improvement tasks.
  • Contribute to Ore Reserve estimates and supporting documentation. Previous experience with JORC and NI 43-101 standards is highly regarded.
  • Work within multidisciplinary teams (geology, geotechnical, resource, environmental) to deliver integrated client outcomes.
  • Assist in preparing clear, well-structured technical reports that stand up to peer review.
  • Support graduate engineers by sharing knowledge and day-to-day guidance.
Our Successful Candidate Will Have
  • A recognised degree in mining engineering.
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience, preferably with an open pit background and some consulting or study exposure.
  • Working proficiency in mine design and scheduling software.
  • Exposure to pit optimisation, production scheduling and life-of-mine planning.
  • Experience on operating mines and/or projects in Australia and/or internationally.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
  • The ability to prepare high-quality technical reports in English.
  • The ability to work within diverse, multidisciplinary teams, and increasingly independently on familiar tasks.
  • Membership of AusIMM, or working toward it. Willingness to work towards Chartered Professional status and RPEQ registration, as these are development goals we will actively support as your experience builds.
  • The right to work in Australia. This is a Perth-based role.
A Career With Us Means You Will Experience
  • Technically interesting and challenging work within a non-hierarchical and diverse consultancy environment
  • Diversity of projects and collaboration with other discipline areas to develop your skills and experience
  • Mentoring by colleagues who are global leaders in their fields
  • Professional development, flexible work and educational support opportunities
  • Opportunities for domestic and international travel, including site visits or secondments to one of our global offices
  • A competitive salary with an opportunity to purchase shares in the company at both the local and global level; we are an independent organisation owned by current employees
