Bluestone Mines Tasmania Joint Venture Pty Ltd is Australia’s largest tin producer operating Renison, an underground hard rock tin mine with a strong resource base.

We seek a proactive Mining Engineer to join the Technical Services team, focusing on mine planning, scheduling, ventilation, backfill and continuous improvement across short- and long-term horizons.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience in underground hard rock mining.
• Underground experience completed.

Responsibilities

• Optimize ore extraction through technical and financial planning within constraints.
• Demonstrate safety leadership and promote safe work practices.
• Complete mine design work for Stope Notes and Panel Notes.
• Produce and guide the weekly operational plan.
• Support operations to meet short- to mid-term targets while aligning long-term planning.
• Mentor and support other engineers in the team.
• Oversee and approve plans to achieve development and production targets.
• Prepare drill and blast plans when required.
• Input into medium- and long-term mine schedules and designs.

The orebody ranges from narrow 2-metre mining widths through to large-scale 40-metre thicknesses, requiring a diverse range of mining methods and innovative engineering solutions.

About the role

We are seeking a proactive and results-oriented Mining Engineer to join our Technical Services team. This role is ideal for an experienced mining engineer who is passionate about solving complex challenges, mentoring others, and driving continuous improvement through mine planning, production, ventilation, backfill or scheduling.

Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, you will play a key role in supporting integrated planning processes, ensuring production and development targets can be achieved safely and efficiently.

You’ll have the opportunity to work across:

• Longitudinal and transverse sublevel open stoping
• Vertical retreat stoping
• Modified AVOCA mining
• CRF and paste backfill
• A complex ventilation system
• Short, medium, and long-term scheduling

Stope sizes range from approximately 1,000 tonnes to more than 100,000 tonnes in the modern mine, with the largest stope mined to date exceeding 650,000 tonnes.

This position is offered on 8 days on, 6 days off roster.

Core responsibilities

• Optimisation of ore extraction through effective technical and financial planning within statutory, environmental and budget constraints.
• Demonstrate strong safety leadership and promote safe work practices.
• Complete mine design work for inclusion in Stope Notes and Panel Notes, supporting safe and efficient mining outcomes.
• Produce and guide the weekly operational plan.
• Support operations in achieving short to mid-term objectives while maintaining long-term planning goals.
• Mentor, coach and support other Engineers within the team.
• Oversee and approve plans required to achieve development and production targets.
• Prepare drill and blast plans when required.
• Provide input into medium and long-term mine schedules and designs.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

• Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or equivalent.
• Previous experience in an underground hard rock mining environment.
• Completion of underground experience.
• Strong engineering skills in the disciplines of mine planning, scheduling, production, ventilation or backfill.
• A commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• The ability to build productive relationships across all levels of the operation.

Experience with Deswik and the Microsoft Office Suite will be highly regarded.
