Job summary

AGL Loy Yang Mine in Victoria is seeking an experienced Mine Technical Officer to join the Maintenance & Outages team. You will work with engineering, maintenance and operations to ensure safe, reliable and efficient electrical and control systems across the mine, with a 9‑day fortnight and a 24‑hour availability roster.

Qualifications

• Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience operating and maintaining electrical/control systems on heavy mining equipment or similar.
• Demonstrated PLC programming and troubleshooting experience.
• Strong fault finding, diagnostic and repair capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist operational and maintenance support for mine electrical control, monitoring, and protection systems.
• Diagnose complex faults and implement corrective actions to return plant to service.
• Identify, recommend and deliver continuous improvement across mine electrical and control systems.
• Participate in the 24-hour availability roster to support mine operations.
• Repair or coordinate replacement of electronic spare equipment.
• Plan and control electrical project work related to plant upgrades and modifications.
• Manage contractors and personnel involved in maintenance and plant modification activities.
• Provide technical support for investigations into plant breakdowns and electrical incidents.

About the role

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Mine Technical Officer to join the Maintenance & Outages team at the AGL Loy Yang Mine. This highly skilled position works collaboratively with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to deliver safe, reliable, and efficient outcomes across Mine electrical and control systems. Working a 9‑day fortnight, you will provide specialist technical support for mine electrical and control systems while contributing to plant upgrades, modifications, and new projects. The role also participates in an availability roster that provides 24‑hour technical support to mine operations.

Key responsibilities

• Provide specialist operational and maintenance support for mine electrical control, monitoring, and protection systems.
• Diagnose complex faults and implement effective corrective actions to safely return plant to service.
• Identify, recommend, and help deliver continuous improvement opportunities across mine electrical and control systems.
• Participate in the availability roster to provide 24‑hour technical support to mine operations.
• Repair or coordinate the replacement of electronic spare equipment.
• Plan, scope, perform and control electrical project work associated with plant upgrades and modifications.
• Manage contractors and other personnel involved in maintenance, construction, and plant modification activities.
• Provide technical support for investigations into plant breakdowns and electrical incidents.

About you

You are an experienced electrical and control systems professional with strong fault‑finding, diagnostic and repair capability. You are self‑motivated, detail‑focused, and comfortable working in a dynamic heavy‑industry environment. A continuous improvement mindset is essential, together with strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships across engineering, maintenance, and operations teams.

What you bring

• An Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering, an Electrical and Instrumentation dual‑trade qualification, or an equivalent electrical qualification.
• Experience in the operation and maintenance of electrical and control systems on heavy mining equipment or other heavy‑industry plant, which will be highly regarded.
• Advanced technical knowledge across electrical, control, monitoring, and protection systems.
• Demonstrated experience in PLC programming and troubleshooting.
• Proven ability to conduct fault finding and diagnosis with limited supervision.
• Ability to interpret and assess technical information from a range of sources, including electrical schematics.
• Advanced computer skills, including hardware, software installation, and troubleshooting, together with strong networking capability. These skills will be highly regarded.
• Experience in programming and troubleshooting variable speed drives, which will be advantageous.
• A proactive attitude to continuous improvement and a commitment to identifying practical, sustainable solutions.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical matters clearly to diverse stakeholders.
• A current driver license.
