Job summary

BHP Group at Olympic Dam is seeking a Mine Services Engineer to translate short-term mine plans into safe, achievable operations. You will work with underground crews and cross-functional teams to optimise performance and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Based in Olympic Dam, you will contribute to safety, efficiency and reliability, leveraging Deswik and Power BI to analyse performance indicators and support system optimisations for a world-class mining site.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Mining and Civil Engineering is ideal.
• Mechanical engineering would be considered.
• Experience in underground mining and paste operations is highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safety culture through field leadership, hazard identification, investigations and reviews.
• Collaborate with underground crews to implement ideas and build cross-team relationships.
• Compile reports and provide expertise to analyse mine services performance indicators and metrics.
• Support ramp-up, optimisation, and troubleshooting of the Paste Reticulation System.
• Engage with Backfill, Vent, G&T S, Development, Scheduling and Maintenance teams for modifications needed to plant and equipment, and with Technology teams to explore new capabilities.

About the Role

In this role, you will report to the Lead Mine Services Engineer, helping translate short-term mine plans into safe, achievable, and efficient operational outcomes. Leveraging your mining operational experience and engineering expertise, you will work closely with underground crews and cross-functional teams to optimise mine performance, identify risks and improvement opportunities, and support the delivery of continuous improvement initiatives.

• Maintain and support a strong safety culture through field leadership, hazard identification, participation in investigations and compliance reviews.
• Liaise with underground crews to ensure that new ideas are developed and practically implemented and build cross-team relationships;
• Compile reports & provide expertise to other teams in analysis of mine services performance indicators and metrics;
• Support the ramp-up, optimisation, and troubleshooting of the Paste Reticulation System to achieve safe and reliable operations.
• Engage with Backfill, Vent, G&TS, Development, Scheduling and Maintenance teams for modifications needed to plant and equipment, and with Technology teams to explore new capabilities.

Location: Olympic Dam, South Australia

Roster: 8 days on, 6 days off; FIFO from Adelaide or Residential in Roxby Downs

About You

• Tertiary qualification in Mining and Civil Engineering is ideal, Mechanical engineering would be considered
• Advanced proficiency in Excel
• Project management experience is highly regarded
• Experience in underground mining and paste operations is highly regarded.
• Ability to interact successfully with multiple internal stakeholders
• Strong time management and problem-solving skills are essential
• Experience with mining software packages such as Deswik is highly regarded
• Power BI development skill is highly regarded
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement capability, with the ability to influence across execution, technical and operational teams
