Job summary

Nazareth Catholic Community invites applications for the role of Middle School Head of Teaching and Learning. The successful candidate will lead teaching and learning across the Middle School, guiding curriculum, assessment and reporting to ensure rigor and consistency with ACARA and AITSL standards.

They will coach Leaders of Teaching and Learning, promote evidence-based pedagogy, and collaborate with staff, parents and parishes to strengthen student outcomes within a Catholic education context.

Middle School Head of Teaching and Learning

Employment Status: Permanent/Ongoing 1.0FTE Teaching Position, plus Position of Responsibility Band 2 Level 4 (4 year tenure)

The Opportunity

The Middle School Head of Teaching and Learning is responsible for leading teaching and learning across the Middle School. As such, the Middle School Head of Teaching and Learning:

• Contributes to the overall leadership of the Middle School as a member of the Middle School Leadership Team
• Provides quality assurance that all classes taught within the Middle School adhere to the provisions of ACARA and that the approaches taken by teachers are consistent with the Australian Standards for Teachers (AITSL).
• Supervises assessment and reporting across the Middle School to ensure quality and to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Leads processes to ensure high levels of collaboration among Leaders of Teaching and Learning (LoTLs) in the planning and development of curriculum, assessment and reporting.
• Contributes to the development of Middle School Improvement Actions and leads the implementation of specific improvement actions for Teaching and Learning.

Key responsibilities include:

Champion the Catholic identity and mission of the College by modelling Catholic values, supporting the spiritual life of the community, and fostering strong partnerships with families, parishes and the wider College community.

Lead excellence in teaching and learning by guiding and mentoring Leaders of Teaching and Learning, promoting evidence-based pedagogy, and building a culture of collaboration, professional growth and continuous improvement.

Oversee curriculum, assessment and reporting to ensure programs are rigorous, coherent and aligned with curriculum requirements, with high-quality assessment, moderation and meaningful feedback to students and families.

Drive school improvement through data-informed practice by analysing student achievement data, monitoring progress, identifying priorities, and implementing targeted strategies that improve learning outcomes for all students.

Lead and develop the Middle School Leaders of Teaching and Learning team through coaching, performance support, recognition of achievements, and the provision of professional learning opportunities.

Contribute to the strategic leadership and operations of the College by collaborating with staff, parents and key stakeholders to ensure a consistent approach to teaching and learning and active participation in College initiatives and events.
