Empyrean IT is seeking a Microsoft 365 Engineer to join our growing team in Melbourne. The role focuses on delivering Modern Workplace and security solutions for our customers, including Intune/Autopilot, Defender for Endpoint, Purview, and SharePoint/Teams migrations.

You will work with a small, dynamic technical team to implement, configure, test, document, and hand over projects, while maintaining strong customer outcomes and adhering to quality and compliance standards.

Empyrean IT is seeking a Microsoft 365 Engineer to join our growing team. The purpose of this role is to provide technical services across Empyrean customers, with a focus on Microsoft Modern Workplace and Microsoft Security technologies. This may include working with solutions such as Microsoft Intune/Autopilot, Defender for Endpoint, Microsoft Purview, Microsoft 365 migrations, Hybrid Exchange, SharePoint/Teams, Azure Virtual Desktop, Windows 365, Copilot, Viva, and Microsoft Entra security solutions.

You will support the delivery of technical projects by assisting with implementation, configuration, testing, documentation, and handover activities. Working with senior engineers and project leads, you will help deliver secure, scalable, and user-friendly solutions, while contributing to the resolution of technical issues throughout the project lifecycle.

You will work as part of a small but dynamic technical team that delivers a broad range of technical projects. Collaboration and initiative are key. While teamwork is critical, you must also be confident working independently, following technical guidance, and delivering strong customer outcomes.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Implementation: Assist with the delivery of client projects, working with Project Managers, senior engineers, and technical leads to implement Microsoft 365 and Modern Workplace solutions.

Configuration and Deployment: Configure and implement Microsoft Modern Workplace and Security solutions, including Microsoft 365, Intune, Defender, Purview, SharePoint, Teams, Exchange Online, and Microsoft Entra ID.

Security-Focused Delivery: Apply documented security standards and best-practice guidance, such as Essential 8, CIS Benchmarks, and Zero Trust principles, as part of project delivery.

Timely Execution: Complete assigned tasks within agreed timeframes and scope, ensuring work is aligned to project requirements and customer commitments.

Technical Support: Assist with troubleshooting and resolving technical issues across systems, endpoints, and Microsoft 365 workloads, including escalated support requests where required.

Customer Engagement: Communicate clearly with customers and internal stakeholders, providing responsive service and contributing to positive customer outcomes.

Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other engineers, project leads, and support teams, sharing knowledge and contributing to a strong delivery culture.

Technology Awareness: Stay current with Microsoft 365 and Security technologies and contribute ideas to improve service delivery and customer solutions.

Compliance: Follow Empyrean’s Quality and Project Management Systems, documentation standards, and compliance requirements.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

Candidates should have 3–5 years of hands-on experience working with Microsoft 365, Modern Workplace, endpoint management, and cloud security technologies, ideally within an MSP or customer-facing environment. Experience assisting with technical project delivery, implementation activities, troubleshooting, and security-focused outcomes is highly regarded.

REQUIRED SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:

Hands-on experience implementing and supporting Modern Workplace solutions, including Microsoft 365, Intune, Autopilot, SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams, Viva, Windows 365, and Microsoft Copilot.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Security solutions, including Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, Microsoft Defender for Office 365, Microsoft Entra ID, Conditional Access, Privileged Identity Management, and Microsoft Purview.

Experience assisting with Microsoft 365 migrations, including migrations from Google Workspace, on-premises environments, and cross-tenant Microsoft 365 environments.

Strong understanding of endpoint management and security across Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android devices, including MDM, MAM, compliance policies, configuration profiles, and application deployment.

Experience supporting Exchange Online and Hybrid Exchange environments, including mailbox migrations, mail flow, client access, and basic hybrid configuration.

Experience supporting Microsoft Teams and SharePoint Online configuration, migration, permissions, and governance activities.

Ability to use PowerShell for administration, reporting, troubleshooting, and basic automation across Microsoft 365 services.

Practical understanding of security controls and best-practice frameworks, such as Essential 8, CIS Benchmarks, and Zero Trust principles.

Ability to troubleshoot Microsoft 365, endpoint, identity, and cloud-related issues, with a working knowledge of Windows Server environments.
