Job summary

GN Windows & Doors Pty Ltd in Sydney requires a skilled Metal Fabricator to fabricate and finish architectural aluminium systems from drawings and specs. You will interpret shop drawings, prepare cutting lists, and manufacture window, door and curtain wall assemblies for residential and commercial projects.

The role demands strong fabrication skills, attention to detail, and ability to produce high-quality workmanship in a modern workshop.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification minimum Cert III in metal fabrication.
• Two years of relevant metal fabrication experience preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.

Responsibilities

• Interpret drawings, shop drawings and specs; prepare cutting lists and schedules.
• Measure, cut, drill, assemble aluminium extrusions and components to spec.
• Fabricate windows, doors, curtain walls and glazing systems for projects.
• Install hardware and run fabrication machinery safely.
• Maintain safe, organised workshop and assist on site when required.
• Collaborate with managers and production staff to meet deadlines.

About the Role

The successful applicant will be responsible for the fabrication, assembly and finishing of custom aluminium window and door systems from technical drawings and production specifications.

The role involves working with a variety of architectural aluminium systems and requires strong technical fabrication skills, attention to detail and the ability to deliver high-quality workmanship.

Task & responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Interpret architectural drawings, shop drawings, specifications and production schedules. Prepare cutting lists and fabrication schedules using Softech V6 and other production software.
• Measure, mark, cut, drill, machine and assemble aluminium extrusions and components to precise specifications. Fabricate custom aluminium window, door, curtain wall and glazing systems for residential and commercial projects. Assemble aluminium frames, sashes, mullions, transoms and associated components.
• Install locks, hinges, rollers, hardware and operating mechanisms into fabricated products. Operate aluminium fabrication machinery, saws, drills, punch equipment and workshop tools safely and efficiently. Conduct quality control inspections to ensure products meet project specifications and company standards.
• Assist with glass preparation, glazing, sealing and finishing of completed aluminium systems. Coordinate materials and components required for fabrication and production workflows. Identify fabrication issues and implement practical manufacturing solutions.
• Maintain workshop equipment and ensure a safe and organised work environment. Assist with on-site installation of completed aluminium window and door systems when required. Ensure compliance with Workplace Health and Safety requirements and company procedures.
• Collaborate with project managers, installers and production staff to achieve project deadlines.

Qualification & experience

Skills and Experience

• The successful applicant should possess: A trade qualification minimum cert III with at least two years of relevant experience as a Metal Fabricator, Aluminium Fabricator or related occupation experience or A cert IV or higher with at least 1 year of full time experience.
• At least 3 years of full time work experience in the field will substitute for formal qualifications Experience fabricating aluminium window and door systems. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and fabrication specifications. Experience using fabrication machinery and workshop equipment.
• Knowledge of architectural aluminium systems and glazing products. Experience using Softech V6 or similar industry software is highly regarded. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
