Job summary

Steel Reinforcement in Sydney is seeking a skilled Metal Fabricator to join our team on a full-time basis. You will fabricate, assemble, and repair structural steel, reinforcing elements, and related components in line with industry standards and project specs.

You will read drawings and bar bending schedules, operate MIG, TIG, and MMAW welding, set up machinery, and maintain quality and safety across the workshop.

Qualifications

• 2–3 years of relevant trade experience as Fabricator, Boilermaker, or Structural Welder.
• Proficient in MIG, TIG, and MMAW welding techniques.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and BBS.
• Strong safety, quality and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and work from engineering drawings, structural blueprints, and BBS.
• Fabricate, assemble, and install structural steel, reinforcing elements, and framework components.
• Perform welding and structural tack-welding using MIG, TIG, and Arc methods.
• Set up, calibrate, and operate a range of metal-forming machinery.
• Cut, shape, and join metal sections using guillotines, shears, and tooling.
• Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with specs and building codes.
• Maintain workshop assets through routine maintenance and troubleshooting.

Job description

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Metal Fabricator to join our team on a full-time basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for fabricating, assembling, and repairing metal structures and components in accordance with industry standards.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Interpret and work from engineering drawings, structural blueprints, and civil bar bending schedules (BBS).
• Fabricate, assemble, and install structural steel, reinforcing elements, and framework components.
• Perform welding and structural tack-welding using GMAW (MIG), GTAW (TIG), and MMAW (Arc) techniques.
• Manually set up, calibrate, and mechanically configure a wide range of industrial metal-forming, shearing, and processing machinery across the production floor.
• Cut, shape, and join metal sections using industrial guillotines, workshop shears, and related mechanical tools.
• Conduct repairs, routine preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting of various workshop fabrication assets.
• Ensure all trade work is completed to high safety, quality, and Australian building code standards.
• Inspect completed work using precision measuring tools to ensure total compliance with engineering specifications.

Skills and Experience Required

• Relevant trade qualification (e.g. Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade or equivalent).
• At least 2-3 years of relevant trade experience as a Fabricator, Boilermaker, or Structural Welder.
• Proven proficiency in MIG, TIG, and manual Arc welding techniques.
• Strong technical knowledge of metal fabrication, structural steel processing, rebar fabrication, and mechanical machinery setups across diverse workshop equipment.
• Demonstrated ability to read, calculate trade tolerances from, and interpret technical drawings.
• Strong attention to detail, precision measurement capabilities, and a strict commitment to safety.
• Ability to work with substantial autonomy as a qualified professional and as part of a team.
• Reliable, punctual, and with a strong professional work ethic.
