Job summary

Scope Engineering in Melbourne is seeking a Welder/Fabricator to weld, fabricate and assemble metal structures for construction, manufacturing, and industrial projects. The role involves working with steel, aluminium, and alloys, with potential maintenance on heavy machinery and boilers.

The ideal candidate has at least 2 years in heavy metal fabrication, strong welding knowledge, and the ability to read drawings and use precision tools.

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years in heavy metal fabrication.
• Sound knowledge of welding processes and metalworking.
• Ability to read technical drawings and use precision measuring tools.
• Strong attention to detail and safety.
• Capable of working independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Analyse drawings and specifications to determine fabrication methods.
• Prepare metal materials by selecting, cleaning and measuring stock.
• Cut and shape metal using hand tools and flame-cutting equipment.
• Form and assemble metal parts into frames or builds.
• Weld, rivet and bolt to join components securely.
• Verify weld quality and dimensions of structures.
• Finish welded areas with grinders and files.
• Operate fabrication equipment including CNC when required.

The Welder/Fabricator will be responsible for the welding, fabrication, and assembly of metal structures, equipment, and components, primarily in the construction, manufacturing, or industrial sector. The role involves working with various metals, such as steel, aluminium, and other alloys, and may also require performing maintenance and repairs on heavy machinery, boilers, and pressure vessels.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse drawings and specifications to determine job requirements and fabrication methods.
• Prepare metal materials by selecting, cleaning, and measuring stock to meet project needs.
• Cut & shape metal components using hand tools, mechanical cutting machines, flame-cutting equipment.
• Form and assemble metal parts into structural frameworks or custom builds.
• Use welding, riveting, and bolting techniques to join components securely and accurately.
• Verify the quality of joins and welds, ensuring correct dimensions and strength of fabricated structures.
• Smooth and finish welded areas using grinders, files, or other tools.
• Operate or program fabrication equipment, including CNC or computer-aided machinery, when required.

About you
