Job summary

BIG W in New South Wales is seeking a Merchandise Planner to balance data-driven forecasting with strong trading instincts. You will develop plans, forecasts, and parameters to ensure our ranges have the right mix, quantity, and price to drive sales and maximise margin.

In this hybrid Sydney-based role, you will manage top-down and bottom-up analyses, tracking weekly trading and supporting cross-functional partners to keep range builds on track and hitting KPIs.

Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of experience as a Planner in a large retail environment.
  • Experience trading a sizeable category across high SKU volumes or planning a full category end to end.
  • Strong analytical skills to turn sales and inventory data into trading decisions.
  • Proactive, hands-on approach with attention to detail and KPI delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Develop merchandise financial plans using top-down and bottom-up data to drive category performance, sales, and profit.
  • Set option plan frameworks for Designers and Buyers, prepare range reviews for buy sign-off, and ensure stock is bought within plan parameters and OTB.
  • Manage in-season OTB, inventory, markdowns, and promotional plans to optimise stock turns and protect profit.
  • Track weekly trading and post-season performance, working with Buyers to act on trends and improve results.
  • Build accurate models and rolling forecasts to support financial planning and peak trading events.
  • Work with cross-functional stakeholders to keep range builds on track against the critical path schedule.
