Australian Mentoring Services (AMS) is hiring part-time, entry-level Mentors/Support Workers on the Central Coast. You will support participants across SIL and CP services, helping with daily living skills and community access.

Qualifications

We support people living with psychosocial disabilities, Autism, Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), mental health conditions and complex behaviours. Our focus is on building independence, developing life skills, achieving personal goals and creating meaningful connections within the community.

We are growing our team across the Central Coast and are looking for passionate Mentors / Support Workers to join us in providing person-centred support across both Supported Independent Living (SIL) and Community Participation (CP).

About the Role

As a Mentor / Support Worker, you’ll play an important role in supporting participants to achieve their goals and live as independently as possible.

Your work may be across our SIL services, participants' homes and the wider community, depending on operational needs and participant requirements.

You’ll support participants with everyday activities while encouraging choice, independence and self-determination.

No two days will necessarily look the same. You may be supporting someone at home with their daily routines, helping develop independent living skills, attending appointments or activities, or supporting someone to get out into the community and build meaningful connections.

What You'll Do

• Provide person-centred support to participants across SIL and Community Participation services.
• Support people with Autism, ABI, psychosocial disability, mental health conditions and complex behaviours.
• Assist participants with daily living skills including cooking, cleaning, meal preparation, shopping and budgeting.
• Support participants to access the community, social activities, appointments and recreational activities.
• Encourage participants to develop independence, confidence and meaningful relationships.
• Support participants to work towards their individual goals and aspirations.
• Follow Individual Support Plans and Behaviour Support Plans.
• Build positive and respectful relationships with participants, their families and support networks.
• Promote choice, dignity, rights and self-determination at all times.
• Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with the wider AMS team.
• Work collaboratively with other Mentors, Team Leaders and Practice Leaders to provide consistent support.

The Work

Our Central Coast roles may include a combination of:

Supported Independent Living (SIL)Supporting participants in their homes with daily routines, household tasks, personal development, community access and building independent living skills.

Community Participation (CP)Supporting participants to access their community, develop social connections, attend activities and appointments, pursue interests and work towards their individual goals.

Depending on the role and participant needs, shifts may include day, afternoon, evening and weekend work, with some positions operating across a rotating roster.
