Job summary

Western Sydney Local Health District is seeking a Mental Health Clinician to join the Blacktown Hospital team. You will undertake intake, assessments and acute mental health care within a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.

Role involves coordinating care with GPs, hospitals, police and community services, with emphasis on recovery-focused practice and high-quality documentation. Applicants require registration eligibility in nursing, OT, social work or psychology.

What you'll be doing

As a Mental Health Clinician, you’ll provide comprehensive intake, assessment and acute mental health care, helping consumers access the right support at the right time. You’ll manage a varied caseload and work closely with consumers, families, healthcare professionals and external services.

Undertake mental health assessments, triage, crisis intervention, home treatment and acute clinical care coordination.

Coordinate care with internal mental health services, GPs, hospitals, police, ambulance, private providers and other community agencies.

Support the provision and management of medication and contribute to clinical reviews, handovers, patient flow and risk management meetings.

Work collaboratively with consumers and families to provide assessment, education and therapeutic interventions aligned with your skills and team priorities.

Contribute to clinical supervision, student development and the ongoing growth of the multidisciplinary team while maintaining high-quality clinical documentation and best-practice care.

Qualifications

Qualifications which permit registration as a Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker, or Psychologist which provides eligibility for membership of the relevant professional association and full registration through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency where legislated.

Selection Criteria

Experience and clinical skills in community mental health triage, comprehensive assessments, including risk and safety planning as well as experience in provision of collaborative care and discharge planning

Understanding of Mental Health/ Psychiatry service/ crisis work and ability to work with in a demanding crisis/acute management service.

Demonstrated ability to collaborate with consumers/carers/families and has experience working with families who are coping with Mental Health Illness.

Highly developed interpersonal communications skills, effective verbal, written and negotiation skills and intermediate computer skills.

Experience and knowledge in acute mental health intervention, early intervention, and CALD issues.

Understanding of the recovery philosophy and trauma informed care in Mental Health with the ability to implement these in clinical practice.

Understanding of NSW Mental Health Act (2007).

Current Driving licence (class C - unrestricted) valid within Australia and willingness to use same for the work purpose.
