Job summary

NSW Health Pathology's Immunohistochemistry team at ICPMR Westmead, within the Department of Tissue Pathology & Diagnostic Oncology, delivers tests that support critical cancer care decisions.

You will perform high-quality IHC/ISH testing in a large referral hospital, collaborating with Scientists and Technical Officers to maintain quality and timely results, while applying your Diploma in Laboratory Technology and IHC expertise.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Laboratory Technology or equivalent with subjects relevant to Anatomical Pathology and Immunohistochemistry or medical laboratory operations.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in diagnostic pathology services relevant to Anatomical Pathology and Immunohistochemistry, with knowledge of LIS, Patient Systems and Quality Control Systems.
• Experience with RTU and Ab concentrates, and operation/maintenance of IHC instruments in a high throughput diagnostic lab.

What You'll Be Doing

Responsible for performing high quality and timely IHC and ISH testing in a large referral hospital using manual and automated methods as part of a collaborative team of Scientists and Technical Officers.

• Minimum qualification of Diploma in Laboratory Technology or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution with subjects relevant to Anatomical Pathology and Immunohistochemistry or medical laboratory operations
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the delivery of diagnostic pathology services relevant to Anatomical Pathology and Immunohistochemistry, with knowledge of Laboratory Information Systems, Patient Systems and Quality Control Systems and computer programs such as Microsoft Office suite.
• Demonstrated Anatomical Pathology and Immunohistochemistry laboratory experience, including but not limited to, the use of RTU and Ab concentrates, operation and maintenance of IHC instruments and other equipment in a high throughput diagnostic laboratory
• Ability to work in a responsible and efficient manner and to manage competing priorities to meet deadlines
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment whilst working autonomously to deliver results within specified timeframes set to meet client expectations
• Customer focused approach displaying well‑developed interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with customers and patients as well as clinical laboratory staff
• Display initiative, problem solving and analytical skills including an ability to apply established principles in a pathology laboratory and investigate and resolve general and complex issues within the laboratory environment
• Commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement and to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities
