Job summary

NSW Health Pathology’s Genetics Laboratory at Randwick seeks a Medical Laboratory Technician to join the Molecular and Cytogenetics team. You will perform specialised tests that support genetic diagnostics and patient care, with opportunities to grow in a dynamic pathology environment.

The role involves contributing to quality management, training, and working within a collaborative team to deliver accurate results and support clinicians across complex cases.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Laboratory Technology or equivalent with subjects relevant to pathology or medical laboratory operations.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in delivering pathology services within Molecular and Cytogenetics, including technical bench work with genetic testing.
• Experience using Laboratory Information Systems, Patient Systems and Quality Systems.

• Coordinate and provide scientific and technical training; review and improve laboratory practices to meet standards and quality systems.
• Deliver a range of operational laboratory activities while meeting deadlines and client expectations.

You'll work alongside expert scientists and clinical teams, gaining exposure to a broad range of advanced technologies and assays, including karyotyping, FISH, microarray and sequencing techniques spanning single genes to whole exomes. What You'll Be Doing

Responsible for delivering a range of operational laboratory activities including the coordination and provisions of scientific and technical training and the ongoing review, development and quality management of laboratory practices to ensure compliance with operational standards and procedures, quality standards and continual process improvement.

• Minimum qualification of Diploma in Laboratory Technology or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution with subjects relevant to pathology or medical laboratory operations
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the delivery of pathology services within a Molecular and Cytogenetics department, including demonstrated technical bench experience involving genetic testing
• Demonstrated experience in the use of Laboratory Information Systems, Patient Systems and Quality Systems
• Ability to work in a responsible and efficient manner and to manage competing priorities to meet deadlines
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment whilst working autonomously to deliver results within specified timeframes set to meet client expectations
• Customer focused approach displaying well-developed interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with customers and patients as well as clinical laboratory staff
• Display initiative, problem solving and analytical skills including an ability to apply established principles in a pathology laboratory and investigate and resolve general and complex issues within the laboratory environment
• Commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement and to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities
