Job summary

NSW Health Pathology invites applications for a Medical Laboratory Assistant at Griffith Base Hospital on a permanent full-time basis. You will support specimen collection, processing and pre-analytical activities in a busy laboratory environment, contributing to high-quality patient care across the region.

This role offers the chance to develop skills in pathology collections, operate pre-analytical equipment, and work within a supportive team.

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Pathology, Pathology Collections or Pathology Assistance or equivalent experience.
• Ability to manage tasks in a demanding environment with competing priorities.
• Effective communication with colleagues and customers.
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
• Proficient computer skills with high data accuracy; operate pre-analytical equipment.
• Understand confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
• Willingness to participate in a 24/7 rotating shift roster (including nights).
• Current NSW C‑Class driver’s licence (P1/P2 acceptable) or ability to travel to sites.

What you'll be doing

Contribute to a high-quality pathology service. Perform a range of pre analytical duties including pathology collections, receiving and triaging of specimens, patient registration and request entry, specimen processing and preparation for transport or delivery to laboratories for timely accurate diagnostic testing.

• Certificate III in Pathology, Pathology Collections or Pathology Assistance, and/or previous experience in a pathology setting or a demonstrated ability to learn all aspects of the pre analytical environment, including phlebotomy.
• Demonstrated ability to manage tasks in a demanding environment where there are competing priorities and time constraints.
• Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers, internal and external.
• Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills combined with the ability to investigate and resolve general issues.
• Proficient computer skills including high attention to detail and data accuracy and the ability to operate and maintain pre analytical equipment.
• Demonstrated understanding of confidentiality and proper handling of sensitive information in a laboratory setting, following relevant legislation, policies, and requirements.
• Willingness to participate in a 24/7 rotating shift roster, including weekends, public holidays, and night shifts
• Current NSW C‑Class driver’s licence (P1 or P2 accepted) is required. Interstate C‑Class licence holders must obtain an NSW C‑Class licence within three months of appointment. Learner licences are not accepted. Alternatively, applicants must have the capacity to travel to any site or location within the operational area for a shift as required.
