Job summary

Tropical Reef Shipyard in Cairns, Far North Queensland, seeks a hands-on Mechanical Fitter Foreman to lead our mechanical fitting team across shipyard operations. This full-time role focuses on coordinating daily activities, supervising tradespeople and ensuring installation, maintenance and repairs meet safety and quality standards.

• Recognised Mechanical Fitting or related trade qualification.
• Extensive mechanical fitting experience, preferably in marine/heavy industrial sectors.
• Supervisory/foreman/trade leadership experience.
• Strong mechanical fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and work instructions.
• Strong planning, organisational, communication and leadership skills.
• Commitment to safety, quality and teamwork.
• Ability to obtain National Police Check.
• High-risk work licences and current confined spaces/working at heights/forklift/dogging/rigging will be highly regarded.

Mechanical Fitter Foreman

Tropical Reef Shipyard is a privately owned, world-class shipyard located in Cairns, Far North Queensland. We service a diverse range of vessels, including Defence, heavy commercial, tugboats and passenger vessels. Our expertise covers all aspects of vessel maintenance, refits and conversions.

We are seeking an experienced, full-time Mechanical Fitter Foreman to lead and support our mechanical fitting team across shipyard operations.

This hands-on leadership role is responsible for coordinating daily activities, supervising tradespeople and ensuring mechanical installation, maintenance and repair work is completed safely, efficiently, on schedule and to the required quality standards.

About you

The successful applicant will have:

• A recognised Mechanical Fitting or related trade qualification.
• Extensive mechanical fitting experience, preferably within the marine, shipbuilding, heavy industrial or maintenance sectors.
• Previous supervisory, foreman or trade leadership experience.
• Strong mechanical, fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• The ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and work instructions.
• Strong planning, organisational, communication and leadership skills.
• A demonstrated commitment to safety, quality and teamwork.
• The ability to successfully complete a National Police Check.
• High-risk work licences and current certifications in confined spaces, working at heights, forklift operations, dogging or rigging will be highly regarded.
