Job summary

Capral Limited is seeking a trade-qualified Mechanical Fitter for our Smithfield aluminium extrusion plant. You will work hands-on with hydraulic and pneumatic systems, fault-finding, and maintaining automated production equipment in a highly automated facility.

The ideal candidate has a recognised Mechanical Fitter trade qualification, relevant licences, and a strong focus on safety. The role includes a rotating day/afternoon shift roster and opportunities to contribute to plant improvements.

Qualifications

• Qualified Mechanical Fitter with hydraulic and pneumatic experience.
• Recognised trade qualification – essential.
• Hydraulic and pneumatic maintenance and fault-finding experience.
• Ability to read hydraulic and pneumatic schematics.
• Strong mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Industrial plant, machinery or manufacturing maintenance experience.
• Welding and basic fabrication capability.
• Strong commitment to workplace safety.
• Availability to work a rotating day and afternoon shift roster.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems
• Respond to breakdowns and minimise production downtime
• Complete planned and preventative maintenance
• Maintain and repair mechanical and automated production equipment
• Read and interpret hydraulic and pneumatic schematics
• Carry out mechanical fault-finding, repairs and equipment inspections
• Assist with plant improvements, modifications and reliability initiatives
• Undertake basic welding and fabrication as required
• Work closely with Production and Maintenance to keep the plant running safely and efficiently

Looking for a maintenance role with more than just the usual plant and equipment?

You’ll work hands-on with a 9-inch extrusion press and the hydraulic, pneumatic and automated systems that keep our operation moving. Purpose-built as a highly automated extrusion facility, Smithfield offers exposure to specialised plant and extrusion equipment you won’t find in every manufacturing environment.

We’re looking for a trade-qualified Mechanical Fitter with strong hydraulic and pneumatic experience who enjoys fault-finding, solving problems and keeping complex plant performing at its best.

What You’ll Be Doing

About You

You must be a qualified Mechanical Fitter with hands-on hydraulic and pneumatic experience.

You’ll bring:

• Recognised Mechanical Fitter trade qualification – essential
• Relevant trade certification/licence
• Hydraulic and pneumatic maintenance and fault-finding experience – essential
• Ability to read hydraulic and pneumatic schematics
• Strong mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills
• Industrial plant, machinery or manufacturing maintenance experience
• Welding and basic fabrication capability
• Strong commitment to workplace safety
• Availability to work a rotating day and afternoon shift roster

Experience with fixed plant, automated production equipment, PLCs/automation, extrusion, metals or heavy manufacturing will be highly regarded. Forklift, Dogging and other relevant High Risk Work Licences would also be advantageous.
