Job summary

NEPEAN Longwall in Mackay is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design, analyse and support longwall mining equipment. You will contribute from concept to detailed design, manufacture, installation and in-field support for underground mining solutions, including longwall components and diesel vehicles.

Role involves collaboration with engineering, drafting, procurement, fabrication and customer-facing teams. A tertiary qualification in mechanical/mechatronic engineering and 5–10 years mining

Qualifications

• 5–10 years engineering experience in mining, heavy industrial or manufacturing environments.
• Experience with longwall or underground coal mining equipment.
• Strong 3D CAD design and analysis capability using Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD and Vault.
• Working knowledge of Australian Standards AS4100, AS3990 and AS3800.
• Willingness to undertake occasional site travel.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies and systems for longwall mining equipment.
• Perform engineering calculations including stress, fatigue and load analyses.
• Produce and review 3D models, assembly models and drawings using CAD tools.
• Prepare and review specifications, BOMs, technical reports and design verification records.
• Collaborate with engineering, drafting, procurement, fabrication and site teams to deliver project outcomes.
• Provide technical support during installation, commissioning and in-service operation.
• Support root-cause investigations, warranty matters and continuous improvement initiatives.
