Job summary

ResMed’s Devices Mechanical Engineering team is seeking a Mechanical Engineer – Pressure Systems to help develop components and subsystems delivering pressurised air for sleep apnea treatment. You will participate in design, testing and documentation within a regulated medical-device environment.

You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, build prototypes, conduct verification/validation, and contribute to risk management and quality processes while advancing your technical skills.

Qualifications

• Tertiary engineering degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Biomedical Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience with 3D CAD modelling (Creo preferred).
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop components and assess impact on performance, manufacturability and user experience.
• Apply design requirements relating to patients, usability, therapy performance, cost and design for manufacture/assembly.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams across mechanical, electronics, systems, software and manufacturing.
• Build and evaluate prototypes using additive manufacturing and hands-on fabrication methods.
• Design and conduct testing including verification and validation activities.
• Solve design problems using first principles, simulation tools and empirical methods.
• Document designs and testing accurately.
• Communicate progress, challenges and risks with the team and stakeholders.
• Participate in DFMEA and other risk management activities.
• Work within Quality Management System and regulatory requirements.
• Develop technical skills and share learnings to improve team capability.

Mechanical Engineer – Pressure Systems

The Devices Mechanical Engineering team develops innovative products from concept to production to improve health outcomes for millions of people around the world. Mechanical engineers work within a project team to research, design, develop and verify products that can be manufactured in high volume. This role is in the Pressure Systems Mechanical sub-team, which designs components and subsystems that deliver pressurised air to treat sleep apnoea and other respiratory conditions.

As our successful candidate, you will be ready to:

• Take responsibility for developing components, considering how design decisions impact product performance, manufacturability, and the end-user experience.
• Understand and apply design requirements relating to patients and customers, usability and accessibility, therapy performance, environmental factors, cost, quality, and design for manufacture and assembly.
• Work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams, collaborating with industrial designers and engineers from mechanical, electronics, systems, software, and manufacturing disciplines.
• Build and evaluate prototypes using a range of techniques, including additive manufacturing and hands‑on fabrication methods.
• Design and conduct testing, including verification and validation activities, to demonstrate that designs meet requirements under expected use and operating conditions.
• Solve design problems using scientific analysis from first principles, simulation tools and empirical methods.
• Create and maintain accurate documentation of designs and testing.
• Communicate progress, technical challenges, and risks proactively with project team members and stakeholders.
• Participate in risk management activities, including identifying, assessing, and mitigating design risks through processes such as DFMEA.
• Work within Resmed’s Quality Management System and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Actively develop your technical skills, apply Resmed engineering best practices, and share new learning that enhances team capability and improves ways of working.

You will have:

• A curious, innovative and analytical mind
• Excellent communication skills and be a team player
• A tertiary qualification in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Biomedical Engineering or equivalent
• Experience with 3D CAD modelling – we use Creo, but experience in any CAD package is acceptable

Strong candidates will have at least one of the following:

• Engineering experience in a product development role, preferably within medical devices or another highly regulated industry
• Particular interest or experience in fluid dynamics, acoustics, pneumatic systems, pumps/blowers or electro‑mechanical systems
• Experience with ANSYS CFD
• Experience designing injection‑moulded components
