Job summary

ResMed in Sydney is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join the Pressure Systems sub-team. You will design components for high-volume production and evaluate manufacturability and patient-focused performance for sleep apnoea devices.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, build and test prototypes, and perform verification activities while contributing to DFMEA and quality processes under regulatory requirements. Strong communication and analytical skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Biomedical Engineering or equivalent.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Experience with CAD and simulation tools.

Responsibilities

• Develop components, considering design impact on performance, manufacturability and end-user experience.
• Apply design requirements related to patients, usability, therapy performance, environment, cost, quality and assembly.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across mechanical, electronics, systems, software and manufacturing.
• Build and evaluate prototypes using additive manufacturing and hands-on fabrication methods.
• Design and conduct verification and validation testing to meet requirements.
• Solve design problems using first principles, simulations and empirical methods.
• Create and maintain documentation of designs and testing.
• Communicate progress, risks and challenges with the team.

As our successful candidate, you will be ready to:

• Take responsibility for developing components, considering how design decisions impact product performance, manufacturability, and the end-user experience.
• Understand and apply design requirements relating to patients and customers, usability and accessibility, therapy performance, environmental factors, cost, quality, and design for manufacture and assembly.
• Work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams, collaborating with industrial designers and engineers from mechanical, electronics, systems, software, and manufacturing disciplines.
• Build and evaluate prototypes using a range of techniques, including additive manufacturing and hands‑on fabrication methods.
• Design and conduct testing, including verification and validation activities, to demonstrate that designs meet requirements under expected use and operating conditions.
• Solve design problems using scientific analysis from first principles, simulation tools and empirical methods.
• Create and maintain accurate documentation of designs and testing.
• Communicate progress, technical challenges, and risks proactively with project team members and stakeholders.
• Participate in risk management activities, including identifying, assessing, and mitigating design risks through processes such as DFMEA.
• Work within Resmed’s Quality Management System and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Actively develop your technical skills, apply Resmed engineering best practices, and share new learning that enhances team capability and improves ways of working.

You will have:

• A curious, innovative and analytical mind
• Excellent communication skills and be a team player
• A tertiary qualification in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Biomedical Engineering or equivalent
• Experience with 3D CAD modelling – we use Creo, but experience in any CAD package is acceptable

Strong candidates will have at least one of the following:

• Engineering experience in a product development role, preferably within medical devices or another highly regulated industry
• Particular interest or experience in fluid dynamics, acoustics, pneumatic systems, pumps/blowers or electro‑mechanical systems
• Experience with ANSYS CFD
• Experience designing injection‑moulded components
