This full-time role involves preparing 3D models, fabrication drawings, and collaborating closely with internal teams to ensure accuracy and practicality in design.

Elephants Foot is seeking a practical and detail-focused Mechanical Engineer – Design & Manufacturing to join our Sydney-based engineering team. This role is suited to someone with 2–5 years’ experience in Mechanical design, fabrication drawings, sheet metal, and manufacturing support. You will work closely with our design, production, installation, and project teams to prepare project-specific designs and support the delivery of fabricated waste-handling equipment.

The ideal candidate will be hands‑on, comfortable working in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment, and capable of turning site requirements into practical, manufacturable designs.

About the Role

You will be responsible for preparing and updating mechanical designs, SolidWorks models, assemblies, and fabrication drawings for project‑specific equipment. The role includes shop drawing and project design support, site‑measure‑based design updates, production support, and coordination with internal teams to ensure designs are accurate, practical, and ready for manufacture.

This is a full‑time, office‑based role located in Sydney.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare 3D models, assemblies, and fabrication drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Support shop drawing and project‑specific design requirements.
  • Update designs based on site measurements, project constraints, and production feedback.
  • Prepare clear and accurate manufacturing drawings for fabricated components and assemblies.
  • Work closely with production, installation, estimating, and project teams.
  • Provide technical support during manufacturing and assembly.
  • Review designs for manufacturability, practicality, and accuracy.
  • Assist with design improvements, standardisation, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Support product development and automation‑related projects where required.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, fabricators, and internal stakeholders as needed.
Skills and Experience
  • Mechanical Engineering degree.
  • 2–5 years’ experience in mechanical design, fabrication, or manufacturing support.
  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks.
  • Experience preparing fabrication and manufacturing drawings.
  • Sheet metal design and fabrication experience.
  • Familiarity with steel fabrication processes.
  • Strong attention to detail.
Highly Regarded
  • Experience with welding, laser cutting, folding, press brake processes, and general steel fabrication.
  • Experience in manufacturing or sheet metal fabrication environments.
  • Exposure to construction services or project‑based design work.
  • Experience with ERP systems or project management software.
  • Experience in waste‑handling equipment or custom fabricated machinery.

You are a hands‑on and practical Mechanical Engineer who enjoys solving real‑world design and manufacturing problems. You are comfortable working with production teams, reviewing site constraints, updating designs, and preparing accurate drawings for fabrication.
