Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Mechanical Design Specialist to join the engineering team in Queenstown, Eastern Cape. You will design detailed 3D models and 2D drawings, and perform mechanical analyses to validate performance.

Work with R&D, manufacturing and quality teams to optimize designs, validate prototyping, and maintain BOMs, specs and design reports. You’ll contribute to cost reductions while applying GD&T and materials knowledge.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 3+ years of mechanical design and CAD modeling experience.
• Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar.
• Experience with FEA tools for design validation is highly desirable.
• Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and GD&T.

Responsibilities

• Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and 2D manufacturing drawings using CAD software.
• Perform mechanical analysis , including stress, strain, and thermal calculations, to verify design integrity.
• Collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure designs are optimized for production and functionality.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, including BOMs, specifications, and design reports.
• Support prototyping activities and conduct design validation testing to confirm performance.
• Identify opportunities for design improvements and cost reductions.
