Ahrens Silos, based at the Kent Town office, seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer to drive product design from concept through manufacture. You will develop detailed 3D models, create production drawings, and manage documentation in Autodesk Vault, ensuring compliance and Design for Manufacture principles.

The role involves coordinating certification, reviewing specs, and collaborating with Operations to deliver practical solutions.

Qualifications

About the Role

We are recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Ahrens Silos team at our Kent Town office.

Reporting to the Executive General Manager, you'll manage the design and technical detail behind the Silos product range, driving product improvements and developing new products from concept through to manufacture.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Develop detailed 3D models, production drawings and specifications in Autodesk Inventor
• Manage engineering data and documentation within the Autodesk Vault PDM system
• Coordinate engineering certification requirements across the silo product range
• Review specifications and drawings to ensure designs meet project, manufacturing and compliance requirements
• Apply Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles to deliver efficient, cost-effective production outcomes
• Prepare installation instructions and supporting documentation
• Assist with material take-offs, manufacturing requirements and cost estimating
• Partner with clients, Operations and Production Managers to resolve technical issues and deliver practical solutions

What You’ll Bring

• Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience in a similar role
• Minimum 3-5 years' experience in a design and drafting environment, with advanced Autodesk Inventor skills
• Strong working knowledge of Autodesk Vault, including document control and drawing management
• Experience in sheet metal and light structural steel design and associated manufacturing processes
• Sound knowledge of relevant Australian Standards, including AS1100
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a high level of accuracy in engineering documentation

Highly regarded:

• Design, drafting or fabrication of materials handling equipment
• Experience in the agricultural manufacturing or engineering sector
• Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies
