Job summary

ĐUKA Tec in Melbourne, VIC, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our growing team on a full-time basis. You will translate concepts into detailed SolidWorks designs for EV systems, create 3D models, drawings, BOMs, and work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver robust, manufacturable solutions.

You will contribute to battery enclosures, chassis components, and other vehicle services, applying GD&T, AS 1100 standards, and high-voltage safety considerations while supporting

• Experience as Mechanical Design Engineer or Mechanical Designer.
• SolidWorks proficiency with assemblies, sheet metal, and weldments.
• Automotive/electric vehicle design experience preferred.
• AS 1100 standards and GD&T familiarity.
• BOM creation and engineering documentation.

ĐUKA Tec is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team on a full-time basis in Williamstown, VIC. This is a strategic position within our engineering department, where you will play a vital role in developing innovative mechanical solutions that drive our business forward. As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for translating concepts into detailed designs, ensuring all solutions meet our rigorous standards for quality, functionality, and manufacturability. This role offers the opportunity to work on diverse projects whilst contributing directly to the company's technical excellence and competitive advantage.

Key responsibilities

• Design and model new mechanical components and assemblies for electric vehicle systems using SolidWorks.
• Develop 3D sketches and parametric models, including routing for cabling, piping, tubing, cooling systems, and other vehicle services.
• Design battery enclosures, mounting systems, chassis components, brackets, protective structures, and other mechanical systems.
• Create detailed production drawings for parts and assemblies in accordance with AS 1100 and applicable engineering standards.
• Prepare and maintain Bills of Materials, including all required fasteners, hardware, purchased components, and manufactured parts.
• Create schematic and installation drawings for user, service, and installation manuals.
• Update and revise existing assembly models and drawings while maintaining configuration and revision integrity.
• Convert AutoCAD 2D drawings into accurate SolidWorks 3D models and production documentation.
• Support research and development, prototyping, testing, troubleshooting, and design validation.
• Conduct site measurements and incorporate measured data into production-ready designs.
• Collaborate with electrical, software, manufacturing, testing, and project teams to resolve design and packaging issues.
• Support suppliers and fabrication teams during manufacture, assembly, and installation.

Essential skills and experience

• Demonstrated experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer or Mechanical Designer.
• Advanced experience with SolidWorks, including assemblies, configurations, sheet metal, weldments, routing, and drawings.
• Experience designing components for automotive, electric vehicle, transport, machinery, or other complex engineered products.
• Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, manufacturing methods, tolerancing, fits, clearances, and GD&T.
• Ability to design for sheet-metal fabrication, machining, welding, and other manufacturing processes.
• Knowledge of AS 1100 Mechanical Engineering Drawing standards.
• Experience creating and maintaining BOMs and engineering documentation.
• Understanding of design verification, prototype testing, and design change processes.
• Familiarity with cloud-based file-sharing and document-management systems.
• Experience with SolidWorks PDM is highly desirable.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
• Experience with battery packs, battery enclosures, electric motors, inverters, chargers, cooling systems, or high-voltage vehicle systems.
• Understanding of high-voltage safety, thermal management, ingress protection, vibration, fatigue, crash protection, and serviceability.
• Experience with FEA or other engineering simulation tools.
• Familiarity with automotive standards, ADR requirements, or relevant Australian and international compliance requirements.
• Experience supporting prototype builds, workshop assembly, testing, and commissioning.
