Job summary

Davies Stewart seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer in Adelaide, SA, on a 4-month contract with extension potential. You will lead end-to-end design, validation, and delivery of specialised mechanical systems for mining and industrial applications.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will collaborate with sales and clients to capture requirements, generate specifications, BOMs, drawings, and data sheets, while applying FEA/CFD to optimise harsh-environment designs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Mechatronic Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 7 years of professional mechanical design experience.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD.
• Experience with FEA (stress, vibration) and CFD (flow path, erosion).
• Understanding of manufacturing processes, DFM, and ISO 9001 standards.
• Comfort communicating with mining clients and presenting technical solutions.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end design, validation, and delivery of specialised mechanical systems.
• Prepare BOMs, detailed drawings, part specs and engineering change notices.
• Conduct structural, fluid, and pressure analyses; perform FEA/CFD simulations.
• Collaborate with sales and clients on design requirements and feasibility.
• Contribute to Practical Process Improvement (PPI) and RCCM initiatives.
• Adhere to OHS policies and SQDC culture.

This customer-facing role combines hands‑on mechanical design expertise with full lifecycle project execution. The Role

Reporting to the Engineering Manager within the Analytical Instruments Group, you will own the end‑to‑end design, validation, and delivery of specialised mechanical systems.

• Collaborate with sales teams and clients to gather design requirements, review sales proposals for technical feasibility, and generate specifications, drawings, and data sheets.
• Prepare project‑specific engineering documentation, including bills of materials (BOMs), detailed drawings, part specifications, and engineering change notices.
• Conduct engineering calculations—covering structural, fluid flow, and pressure analysis—alongside FEA and CFD simulations to optimise designs for harsh environments.
• Actively participate in Practical Process Improvement (PPI) projects, kaizen events, and Root‑Cause Counter‑Measure (RCCM) 5‑whys problem‑solving initiatives.
• Adhere strictly to OHS policies and embrace the SQDC (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost) culture across daily operations.

About You

You are an experienced, driven mechanical engineer who pairs rigorous analytical capability with strong communication skills and a passion for industrial design.

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Mechatronic Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
• A minimum of 7 years of professional work experience in a related mechanical design engineering role.
• Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD platforms, alongside capability in performing FEA (stress, vibration) and CFD (flow path, erosion) simulations.
• Demonstrated understanding of manufacturing processes, DFM principles, and relevant AS/ISO standards (including ISO 9001).
• Comfortable communicating directly with mining clients, understanding complex needs, and presenting tailored technical solutions.
