Job summary

McCloy Automotive in North Richmond NSW is seeking a Light Vehicle Mechanic or 3rd/4th year apprentice to join our busy workshop. This full-time role focuses on high‑quality servicing, diagnostics and repairs, with a clear path for skill development and career progression.

You will work Monday to Friday, use modern diagnostic tools, and collaborate with a friendly team to ensure every vehicle leaves our workshop to exacting standards and with excellent customer service.

Qualifications

• Requires a recognised automotive mechanical qualification (TAFE NSW or MTA NSW) in light vehicle repair.
• Proven experience in a commercial workshop.
• Strong diagnostic skills and ability to troubleshoot complex problems.
• Proficiency with diagnostic equipment and workshop tools.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Customer-focused with good communication.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance and servicing on light vehicles.
• Diagnose faults using diagnostic equipment.
• Repair and replace faulty components including engines and brakes.
• Provide customers with detailed repair reports.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed on each vehicle.
• Communicate repair requirements and timescales to customers.
• Maintain a safe, tidy workshop and comply with health and safety regulations.
• Collaborate with team for efficient workflow and timely completion.
• Stay updated with latest vehicle technologies and repair techniques.

About the role:

McCloy Automotive is seeking a skilled and dedicated Light Vehicle Mechanic or 3rd/4th year Mechanic to join our team in North Richmond NSW. This is a full-time position offering the opportunity to work in a dynamic automotive environment where your expertise will be valued and your career progression supported. As a Light Vehicle Mechanic, you will be at the heart of our operations, delivering high-quality mechanical services and repairs to our valued customers. You will play a crucial role in maintaining our reputation for excellence and ensuring that every vehicle leaving our workshop meets our exacting standards.

What you'll be doing:

• - Perform routine maintenance and servicing on light vehicles including oil changes, filter replacements, fluid checks and adjustments
• - Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using diagnostic equipment and technical knowledge
• - Repair and replace faulty components including engines, transmissions, suspension systems and braking systems
• - Conduct thorough inspections of vehicles to identify potential issues and provide customers with detailed reports
• - Keep accurate and detailed records of all work completed on each vehicle
• - Communicate effectively with customers regarding repair requirements, timescales
• - Maintain a safe and clean workshop environment in compliance with health and safety regulations
• - Collaborate with other team members to ensure efficient workflow and timely job completion
• - Stay updated with the latest vehicle technologies and repair techniques

What we are looking for:

• A recognised automotive mechanical qualification at TAFE NSW or MTA NSW in light vehicle repair and maintenance
• Proven experience working as a mechanic in a commercial workshop environment
• Strong diagnostic skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical problems
• Proficiency with diagnostic equipment and workshop tools
• Knowledge of current vehicle makes and models, with understanding of both traditional and modern vehicle systems
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to delivering quality workmanship
• Strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach
• A valid driver's licence
• Reliability, punctuality and a positive attitude to work
• Experience with computerised workshop management systems is desirable
