Job summary

Veolia Australia & New Zealand is hiring a Materials Handling Operator to support our industrial services team on-site at Portland Aluminium. The role is based at Portland and includes operating heavy machinery, monitoring performance, and performing routine maintenance to ensure reliable plant operation.

This casual position offers a pathway to permanent work, an hourly rate with allowances, and extensive on-the-job training while emphasising safety and compliance.

Qualifications

• Experience in construction, industrial, manufacturing or blue-collar roles.
• Safety-focused with ability to follow procedures and environmental compliance.
• Able to work unsupervised and use problem solving skills.

The Opportunity

Veolia is seeking a dedicated and technically proficient Materials Handling Operator to join and support our industrial services team on-site at Portland Aluminium. This critical role is located in Portland and involves being based directly at the Portland Aluminium Smelter to ensure the seamless operation and maintenance of vital machinery.

What you'll be responsible for

• Operating heavy industrial machinery and specialised equipment
• Monitoring machine performance and conducting routine maintenance checks
• Following operational procedures and safety protocols

What you'll need to be successful

• Proven experience in construction, industrial, manufacturing, or blue-collar roles
• Have a high regard for customer focus and safety
• Excellent communication skills and willingness to develop new competencies
• Unwavering commitment to safe work practices
• Current license required: HR, Forklift & EWP HRWL
• Licence & Qual’s highly desirable: HC, Dogging & Rigging
• Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical/mobile equipment in an industrial environment.
• A working knowledge and understanding of safety and environmental compliance.
• Well developed communication and interpersonal skills.
• Able to work unsupervised and use problem solving skills effectively.
