Job summary

GHD is seeking an experienced Design Manager / Technical Director – Maritime to lead and grow our Queensland Maritime team from Brisbane or other Queensland offices.

You’ll guide multidisciplinary teams on complex port, Defence and transport projects, manage scope and risk, and build strong client relationships while driving technical excellence and mentoring engineers across Australia and internationally.

Qualifications

• 10+ years' experience in assessment, analysis, design and remediation of maritime structures.
• Experience leading design and delivery of maritime infrastructure projects.
• Design management, stakeholder management and project delivery experience.
• Familiar with Australian and international maritime design standards.
• Strong commercial judgement and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Chartered status (or working toward chartership) and RPEQ, or ability to obtain.
• Passion for developing people through coaching and mentoring.

Responsibilities

• Lead planning, assessment, design and delivery of maritime projects (wharves, jetties, terminals, ports, marinas, pontoons, seawalls).
• Direct design teams across disciplines to achieve high-quality outcomes.
• Manage scope, quality, program, budget, risk and design interfaces.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and collaborate with other disciplines.
• Build and maintain trusted client and stakeholder relationships.
• Prepare proposals and pursue growth opportunities for maritime team.
• Prepare and review technical reports, specifications and design documents.
• Coach and mentor developing engineers and foster team culture.
• Provide design management and technical leadership across Australia and internationally.
