Job summary

GHD seeks an experienced Design Manager / Technical Director – Maritime to lead maritime infrastructure projects across ports, jetties, ferries and coastal developments. The role can be based in Brisbane with potential to consider other Queensland offices.

The position involves leading design teams, managing scope, budget and risk, sustaining client relationships, and mentoring engineers on projects in Australia and internationally.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Approximately 10+ years' experience in assessment, analysis, design and remediation of maritime structures.
• Experience leading the design and delivery of maritime infrastructure projects.
• Demonstrated capability in design management, stakeholder management and project delivery.
• Familiarity with relevant Australian and international maritime design standards and guidelines.
• Strong commercial judgement and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Chartered status (or working toward chartership) and RPEQ registration, or the ability to obtain it.
• A passion for developing people through coaching and mentoring.

Responsibilities

• Leading the planning, assessment, design and delivery of maritime infrastructure projects including wharves, jetties, ferry terminals, port developments, marinas, pontoons and seawalls.
• Leading design teams, including engineers, scientists and drafters, to deliver high-quality project outcomes.
• Managing project scope, quality, program, budget, risk and design interfaces across the project lifecycle.
• Coordinating multidisciplinary teams and collaborating with other disciplines on complex projects.
• Building and maintaining trusted relationships with clients and stakeholders.
• Preparing proposals and pursuing opportunities to support the growth of the maritime team.
• Preparing and reviewing technical reports, specifications and design documentation.
• Coaching and mentoring developing engineers and contributing to a strong team culture.
• Providing design management and technical leadership across projects in Australia and internationally.
