Job summary

Downer is seeking an experienced Manufacturing QC Inspector to support rollingstock manufacturing in Queensland. This hands-on role focuses on inspections, adherence to quality requirements, and contributing to safe, efficient rail vehicle production under the Queensland Train Manufacturing Program.

You will work closely with production teams, suppliers and project stakeholders to uphold a proactive quality culture and drive continuous improvement across carbody, bogie and fit-out activities,

Qualifications

  • Trade qualification in Electrical/Mechanical/Fitting/Weld/Coating or related discipline.
  • Experience in QC inspections within manufacturing/rail/engineering environments.
  • Ability to read and apply technical drawings, standards and quality documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspection and surveillance across manufacturing operations (carbody, bogie, fit-out).
  • Verify compliance with specifications, drawings and quality requirements.
  • Identify and report non-conformances and quality risks.
  • Promote a zero-harm culture and support safety and environmental initiatives.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Manufacturing QC Inspector to support rollingstock manufacturing operations across the Queensland Train Manufacturing Program.

This is a hands-on role where your inspections, technical expertise and attention to detail will help ensure rail vehicles are manufactured safely, efficiently and in accordance with stringent quality requirements.

Working closely with production teams, suppliers and project stakeholders, you will contribute to building a proactive quality culture while supporting the successful delivery of Queensland's next generation passenger fleet.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct inspection and surveillance activities across manufacturing operations, including carbody, bogie and fit-out production.
  • Verify compliance with technical specifications, drawings, standards, procedures and quality requirements.
  • Identify, report and upscale non-conformances, quality risks and production issues.
  • Promote Downer's Zero Harm culture and actively support safety, quality and environmental initiatives.
  • Collaborate with production teams, suppliers and stakeholders to drive continuous improvement and quality outcomes.
What You'll Bring

You're a quality-focused professional who takes pride in delivering work to a high standard and understands the critical link between quality, safety and customer outcomes.

You will bring:

  • A trade qualification in Electrical, Mechanical/Fitting, Weld Inspection, Coating Inspection or a related discipline.
  • Experience performing quality control inspections within a manufacturing, rail, heavy industry or engineering environment.
  • The ability to read, interpret and apply technical drawings, standards, specifications and quality documentation.
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to engage with workshop personnel and project stakeholders.
  • A proactive approach to safety, continuous improvement and problem-solving.
