Job summary

Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) seeks a Manager - Strategy to shape its future direction and navigate the evolving energy landscape. Reporting to the GM Strategy, you will translate strategic priorities into actionable plans and drive meaningful change across the organisation.

You will mentor junior team members while delivering insights that inform both short and long-term strategy. The role supports a high-performing Corporate Strategy function within the Strategy Division.

Qualifications

• Experience in energy industry and/or top-tier strategy/management consulting.
• Strong strategic toolkit; ability to articulate ambiguous problems into briefs; develop hypotheses.
• Analytical modelling and synthesising data into clear insights.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication for executive and Board audiences.
• Ability to build relationships and drive collaboration across the organisation.
• Ability to manage competing priorities in an agile environment.
• Desirable tertiary qualification in engineering, economics, or business.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of strategic insights on energy market trends, industry developments and international peer assessment to inform AEMO's long-term strategy and priorities.
• Analyse complex strategic issues and provide evidence-based recommendations for Executive Leadership Team and Board decision-making.
• Monitor Australian and global energy sector developments, identifying opportunities, risks and best-practice insights relevant to AEMO.
• Collaborate with senior leaders and subject matter experts to shape five-year strategic roadmaps and align priorities with financial plans.
• Develop high-quality strategy papers and presentations for Executive/Board audiences, while mentoring junior team members.

About The Role

Join AEMO at the forefront of Australia's once-in-a-generation energy transition. As Manager - Strategy, you will play a key role in shaping AEMO's future direction and helping navigate the rapidly evolving energy landscape. Reporting to the GM Strategy and working within a high-performing Corporate Strategy team, you will analyse industry trends, market developments and emerging challenges to answer complex strategic questions and inform critical organisational decisions.

You will develop insights that influence AEMO's short and long-term strategy, support the translation of strategic priorities into actionable plans, and drive meaningful change across the organisation.

This role also provides the opportunity to mentor and support junior team members, contributing to a culture of collaboration, learning and excellence.

What You Will Be Doing

• Lead the development of strategic insights on energy market trends, industry developments and international peer assessment to inform AEMO's long-term strategy and priorities.
• Analyse complex strategic issues and provide evidence-based recommendations to support Executive Leadership Team and Board decision-making.
• Monitor Australian and global energy sector developments, identifying emerging opportunities, risks and best-practice insights relevant to AEMO.
• Work collaboratively with senior leaders and subject matter experts across the organisation to shape the five-year strategic roadmaps and ensure alignment of strategic priorities with financial and investment plans.
• Develop high-quality strategy papers, presentations and recommendations for Executive and Board audiences, while supporting and mentoring junior team members.

What You Will Bring To The Role

• Demonstrated experience in and knowledge of energy industry and/or top tier strategy and management consulting experience
• Strong strategic toolkit, ability to articulate ambiguous problems and shape into well-structured briefs, develop hypotheses, identify and structure analysis that is required.
• Strong ability and demonstrated experience in analytical modelling and synthesising data into clear insights and "so what".
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including executive and Board-level audiences.
• Ability to build strong relationships across the organisation across all levels, and drive collaboration and alignment through structured consultation and engagement.
• Strong ability to manage competing priorities and work in an agile environment.
• Tertiary qualification in engineering, economics, business or a related discipline (desirable).
