Job summary

Thiess in Moranbah, Bowen Basin, is seeking an experienced HSET Manager to lead safety, health and environment initiatives on site. You will drive safety culture, develop and implement safety plans, and report to the Project Manager.

The role requires 3–5 years in a senior HSET role, a Diploma in OHS or Cert IV WH&S, and open pit mining experience. You will oversee a team of professionals and manage budget delivery while modelling hands-on leadership.

Qualifications

  • Senior role with tertiary qualifications in Health and Safety and/or Environmental Management.
  • 3 - 5 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Diploma in OHS and/or Cert IV WH&S.
  • Experience in open pit mine operations.
  • Sound knowledge of QLD OHS legislation and mine regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead strategy and influence change with top level management.
  • Hands-on leadership to implement project safety management plans.
  • Motivate people to own health & safety across all levels of the project.
  • Oversee a team of Health, Safety and Training professionals and ensure high standards.
  • Lead the safety culture on site to ensure safety of all persons on site.
  • Manage Projects and budgets to deadlines.

As the HSET Manager, you will:

Thiess is currently seeking a HSET Managerto join our Caval Ridge Project in the Bowen Basin, Moranbah.

As our next Health, Safety, Environment & Training Manager based on-site working a 5/2, 4/3 Day Shift rosterand reporting to the Project Manager, you will be responsible for driving safety strategies and initiatives that cultivate and sustain a project culture of continuous improvement in safety.

As a key member of the site senior leadership team key, accountabilities includes:
  • Influence and provide support to your peers in order to achieve our vision of every safe every day.
  • Your 'hands on' approach, clear focus and effective leadership will contribute to the implementation of project safety management plans
  • Motivate people to ensure ownership of healthy & safety across all levels of the project as well as to develop and ensure the effectiveness of the health & safety system.
  • Oversee a team of Health, Safety and Training professionals ensuring work is delivered to a high standard, and in line with legislation.
  • Lead the safety culture on site to ensure the safety of all persons on site
  • Manage Projects and budgets to deadlines
ABOUT YOU
  • Previous experience in a senior role and relevant tertiary qualifications in Health and Safety and/or Environmental Management are essential, as is your ability to understand workplace risk. 3 - 5 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Previous experience in managing both the health and safety and environmental risks of a business would be highly valued.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead strategy and influence change with top level management is required.
  • Minimum Diploma in OHS and/or Cert IV WH&S
  • Demonstrated experience in open pit mine operations
  • Sound knowledge of QLD OHS legislation and mine regulations

Leading by example, you will be 'hands on' in your approach with a clear focus on contributing to the implementation of project safety and environmental management plans, including HSET strategies and program delivery to minimising workplace incidents. Importantly, you will also provide project guidance in hazard identification and risk management, system development, incident investigation, monitoring programs and reporting.
