Job summary

This is an opportunity to lead statewide work that strengthens the capability, consistency and effectiveness of medical rostering practices across NSW Health. Working within the Efficiency Improvement and Support Team, you will partner with Local Health Districts, Specialty Health Networks, statewide services and other key stakeholders to identify improvement opportunities and support the implementation of practical, sustainable rostering solutions.

The role will provide expert advice, guidance and capability‑building support to improve rostering practices, workforce allocation, Award and policy compliance, and the effective use of workforce resources. You will lead improvement projects, facilitate education and knowledge sharing, analyse complex information, and support health services to embed changes in practice. This is a highly collaborative role suited to an experienced improvement leader who can translate statewide priorities into achievable local action.

What you will be doing
  • Lead statewide initiatives to improve medical rostering practices, workforce allocation and operational performance across NSW Health.
  • Build medical rostering capability by developing and delivering education, guidance, tools, workshops and other practical improvement resources.
  • Partner with Local Health Districts, Specialty Health Networks and other stakeholders to identify rostering challenges and implement sustainable, evidence‑informed solutions.
  • Contribute to the identification, development and implementation of efficiency improvement strategies across NSW Health as part of the Efficiency Improvement Support Team.
  • Lead complex improvement and change projects, including stakeholder engagement, implementation planning, data analysis, reporting and evaluation
About you
  • Strong knowledge of rostering improvement, preferably within medical workforce or a complex health service environment.
  • Experience leading statewide or organisation‑wide improvement, change management or workforce reform initiatives.
  • The ability to build capability through effective education, facilitation, coaching, guidance and knowledge sharing.
  • Advanced analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to translate complex workforce and rostering information into practical recommendations.
  • Highly developed communication, relationship management, influencing and negotiation skills, including experience working with senior and diverse stakeholders.
  • The ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
  • A growth mindset, and commitment to continuous learning and personal development.
  • The ability to work in a small dynamic team environment.
