Job summary

ThompsonCook in Melbourne is seeking an experienced Management Accountant to join the team. You will focus on inventory, management reporting and production variance analysis, reporting to CFO/COO within a flat, collaborative structure in the Eastern Suburbs.

The role will deliver high quality financial reporting, operational analysis and cost insights to support business decisions. It is an on-site position with parking, offering real exposure to production, inventory and logistics beyond

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Accounting or Finance with CA/CPA desirable.
• Proven experience as a Management Accountant in wholesale or manufacturing.
• Strong expertise in inventory accounting, cost modelling and variance analysis.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management accounts, including P&L and cost centre reporting, variance analysis and commentary.
• Support annual budget and forecasts in partnership with business units.
• Own inventory accounting, including valuation, reconciliations and data integrity.
• Oversee landed cost calculations, including customs charges, duties and freight allocations.
• Support product and standard costing, BOM reviews and margin analysis.
• Conduct production variance analysis and recommend operational efficiencies.
• Manage inventory provisioning, obsolescence, stocktakes and cycle counts.
• Partner with Operations to drive cost optimisation and margin improvement.
• Strengthen financial controls through balance sheet reconciliations and process improvements.

The Opportunity

Our client is a well established, Australian wholesale and manufacturing business with a strong portfolio of owned and distributed brands, supplying retail customers across Australia and New Zealand. They are seeking an experienced Management Accountant to join their team.

Reporting to the CFO, this role sits at the intersection of Finance and Operations. It will deliver high quality financial reporting, operational analysis and cost insights to support business decision making.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants real exposure to production, inventory and logistics rather than a purely reporting focused role.

The Challenge

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

The Expertise
