Job description

Maintenance Technician – Electrical & Fault-Finding

Specialised Food Services Pty Ltd – Murwillumbah NSW

Specialised Chicken | South Murwillumbah, NSW | Monday to Friday
About Specialised Chicken

Specialised Chicken is an established Australian manufacturer of high-quality chicken products, operating from the Northern Rivers of NSW in South Murwillumbah.

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Maintenance Technician to support our manufacturing operations and ensure our production equipment operates safely, reliably and efficiently.

We are looking for a maintenance all-rounder who is mechanically capable but particularly strong in electrical fault-finding, electronic troubleshooting and diagnosing equipment problems.

This role is suited to someone who enjoys solving problems, understands machinery and can work methodically to identify the cause of faults and implement practical, lasting solutions.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the Factory Manager, you will be responsible for preventative and reactive maintenance across our production equipment and associated systems.

You will work closely with the production team to minimise downtime, resolve equipment faults and maintain the reliability of our manufacturing operations.

We need someone who can do more than carry out routine maintenance. You must be confident investigating faults, thinking logically and taking ownership of problems until they are resolved.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out preventative and reactive maintenance on production machinery and equipment.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, electronic and mechanical faults.
  • Investigate faults involving motors, sensors, switches, drives, control components and associated equipment.
  • Identify the root cause of recurring breakdowns and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Perform mechanical repairs, equipment adjustments, component replacements and general maintenance.
  • Maintain and repair conveyors, pneumatic systems and other production equipment.
  • Assist with machinery installations, commissioning, improvements and equipment modifications.
  • Interpret relevant technical drawings, electrical schematics and equipment documentation.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability.
  • Work collaboratively with production personnel to minimise downtime and maintain operational efficiency.
  • Maintain high standards of workplace safety, housekeeping and food manufacturing compliance.
About You

You are a practical, technically minded problem-solver who takes pride in keeping equipment running reliably.

You understand that effective maintenance is not just about fixing a breakdown — it is about understanding why it happened and preventing it from happening again.

To be successful, you will bring:

  • At least three years' experience in industrial maintenance, manufacturing maintenance or a similar technical role.
  • Strong electrical fault-finding and electronic troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Sound mechanical maintenance, repair and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience diagnosing faults in industrial machinery and associated components.
  • The ability to investigate problems logically and identify root causes.
  • A proactive approach to preventative maintenance and continuous improvement.
  • The ability to work independently, prioritise tasks and respond to production requirements.
  • A strong commitment to safety, reliability and quality workmanship.
  • Reliability, initiative and a hands-on attitude.
  • A relevant trade qualification in mechanical maintenance, electrical, electronics, instrumentation or a related discipline will be highly regarded. Applicants must hold any licences required to undertake the work assigned to them.
  • Previous experience in food manufacturing is advantageous but not essential.
  • A current forklift licence will be highly regarded but is not essential.
Working Arrangements
  • Monday to Friday.
  • Eight-hour shifts with staggered start times to provide maintenance coverage throughout the production day.
  • Available shifts may include:
    • 2:00 am – 10:00 am
    • 6:00 am – 2:00 pm
    • 12:00 pm – 8:00 pm
  • Flexibility to work different start times according to operational requirements is essential.
  • Occasional weekend work and overtime may be required.

Applicants should consider the location and shift arrangements carefully before applying.

Why Join Specialised Chicken?
  • Join an established Australian food manufacturing business.
  • Take on a varied, hands-on role with real responsibility for equipment reliability.
