Job summary

Aurizon is seeking a Maintenance Superintendent to lead a critical maintenance operation from our Jilalan depot, Sarina. You will drive safety, coach leaders, and manage performance to ensure on-time, in-full locomotive reliability across the network.

You will apply analytical skills, steer continuous improvement, and oversee budgets, resources and training to build a capable, accountable team aligned with Aurizon’s safety and service standards.

Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of operations, preferably rail industry.
  • Knowledge of contemporary maintenance, supply chain and reliability processes.
  • Relevant trade or tertiary qualifications commensurate with the role.
  • Well-developed Safety management skills and knowledge including incident investigation, safety interactions, near miss reporting and behaviour based safety leadership.
  • Effective operational management and leadership skills with a proven capability to develop and implement relevant systems to achieve relevant key performance indicators.
  • Ability to effectively engage team members, establish and sustain relationships, set clear direction and provide coaching.
  • Demonstrated customer relationship management skills.
  • Demonstrated commercial acumen

Responsibilities

  • Lead a maintenance operation and the maintenance leadership team to deliver safe, reliable locomotive performance.
  • Drive safety culture and Zero Harm in all aspects of the operation.
  • Coach Leaders to achieve customer expectations through a result-driven culture.
  • Provide expert advice and support to leaders to meet performance objectives and build high-performance teams.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and collaboration.
  • Apply analytics and KPIs to optimise service delivery on time and in full.
  • Manage budgets, resources, on-time performance and safety.
  • Ensure activities meet industry and business standards.
  • Maintain up-to-date training and competency for the allocated team.
  • Build positive relationships with stakeholders.
  • Take accountability and ownership for team outcomes.

Maintenance Superintendent • Sarina, QLD, AU

Based at Aurizon's Jilalan depot, this is an opportunity to lead a critical maintenance operation that supports safe, reliable and efficient locomotive performance across the network. Working through your maintenance leadership team, you will provide clear direction, drive operational discipline and ensure maintenance outcomes are delivered to a high standard, with safety at the centre of everything you do.

About the role
  • Champion a safety culture which promotes, creates and maintains a Zero Harm approach in all aspects of the operation.
  • Provide leadership and coaching to Leaders to achieve customer expectations through a result driven, customer focused and commercial culture.
  • Provide coaching, expert advice, and support to leaders to achieve performance objectives, promote high performance teams, support continuous improvement activities, develop potential successors and influence operational strategy.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and collaboration.
  • Apply conceptual and analytical skills and utilise key performance indicators to optimise delivery of services on time and in full.
  • Manage financial and operational budgets, resources, on time performance and safety.
  • Ensure performance is measured and meets or exceeds business requirements.
  • Ensure the allocated team has up to date training and competency
  • Build positive workplace relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Take accountability and ownership in all aspects of your team.
