Job summary

Aurizon is seeking a qualified Mechanical Engineer for a 7-month contract in Rockhampton to support the Mechanised Production team. You will provide technical engineering support on on-track rail machinery and heavy maintenance equipment, aiding maintenance, construction and operations across the network.

The role emphasizes asset reliability, lifecycle improvement, and problem-solving, with opportunities to engage stakeholders and contribute to safety and innovation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor level Mechanical Engineering required.
• Experience in preparing and reviewing written technical reports.
• Strong understanding of infrastructure operations, design, construction and safety standards related to Mechanical Engineering.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical advice to operational teams.
• Champion engineering safety and asset integrity through engineering controls and risk-based decision-making.
• Bridge the gap between operational and engineering teams and promote innovative infrastructure solutions.
• Travel to various locations across the Central Queensland Coal Network as required.

About the role: An exciting 7-month opportunity exists for a qualified Mechanical Engineer to join Aurizon's Mechanised Production team in Rockhampton. Bringing your expertise in on-track rail machinery and heavy maintenance equipment, you will provide technical engineering support and advice to maintenance, construction, and operational teams across the network.

This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of asset reliability, lifecycle, and improvement initiatives, drawing on your mechanical engineering experience, problem-solving capability, stakeholder engagement skills, and passion for innovation and continuous improvement.

You will:

• Provide technical advice to operational teams.
• Champion engineering safety and asset integrity by applying engineering controls, safety-in-design principles, and risk-based decision-making to support the reliability, performance, and safe operation of Aurizon's mechanised production fleet
• Exercise your communication skills in bridging the gap between operational teams and engineering teams.
• Challenge the status quo and promote innovative infrastructure solutions delivering operational and commercial outcomes.

About you:

• Bachelor level of Mechanical Engineering

Specific skills.

• Demonstrable experience in the preparation and review of written technical reports
• Ability to demonstrate sound engineering judgement and advice.
• Possess a strong foundational knowledge of infrastructure operations, design, construction, maintenance and safety standards and specifications relating to Mechanical Engineering.
• Willing to travel to various locations across the Central Queensland Coal Network as required.
• A desire to be challenged and a willingness to learn.
• High level of skill in application of an ensuring compliance with legislation, regulation, and practices regarding safety, environment, and engineering.
• High level of skill in reviewing and recommending tactical engineering solutions.
