Job summary

Council Jobs is seeking a mechanically skilled technician to maintain our Materials Recovery Facility and related plant in Mount Isa. You will inspect, service and repair conveyors, hydraulics, gearboxes and rotating equipment to maximise reliability and uptime.

The role requires a Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade, Queensland C class license, and High Risk Work Licences. You will work with CMMS systems and together with a team ensure safe operations.

Qualifications

• Australian trade certificate required and relevant mechanical background.
• Experience with process plants, conveyors or similar equipment.
• Must hold high-risk licences and be able to read technical drawings.

Responsibilities

• Maintain plant, equipment and infrastructure for the MRF and waste operations.
• Carry out inspections, servicing, fault finding, repairs to maximise reliability.

Job description

This position is responsible for the safe and reliable maintenance of plant, equipment and infrastructure associated with Council's Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) and waste operations.

Undertake inspections, servicing, fault finding, repairs and maintenance activities on processing plant, conveyor systems, hydraulic systems and associated equipment to maximise reliability, minimise downtime and support efficient facility operations.

About you:

• Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade (Fitter and Turner, Mechanical Fitter or equivalent).
• Current Queensland "C" Class Driver Licence.
• Working at Heights certification.
• Welding and fabrication experience.
• High Risk Work Licence (Forklift, Elevated Work Platform, Dogging or Rigging).
• Experience maintaining industrial processing plant, fixed plant or similar mechanical equipment.
• Sound knowledge of conveyor systems, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, gearboxes, drives, bearings and rotating equipment.
• Demonstrated fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience delivering preventative and breakdown maintenance.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, manuals and specifications.
• Experience using Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) or similar.
• Ability to complete maintenance records, inspection reports and work orders.
• Demonstrated commitment to workplace health and safety.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
• Experience in waste management, recycling, resource recovery, mining or industrial processing facilities.
• Electrical disconnect/reconnect competency.
• Experience with asset management and reliability-centred maintenance practices.
