Job summary

The Y Queensland is seeking a Maintenance Caretaker to inspect properties, perform routine repairs within your skills, and coordinate with trades for work outside scope across Nerang, Southport and Slacks Creek. You will keep accurate records of inspections and repairs, assist residents with maintenance queries, and provide occasional cleaning and caretaker relief.

This hands-on role requires practical problem solving, safety awareness, and willingness to travel between sites.

At The Y Queensland, our Housing team provides affordable and social housing across South East Queensland. We're looking for a Maintenance Caretaker who takes pride in noticing what needs attention, fixing what they can and making sure the right people are brought in for work that needs a qualified trade.

This is a hands‑on role working across our properties in Nerang, Southport and Slacks Creek, with regular travel between sites. You'll help keep homes, shared areas and facilities safe, functional and well cared for.

What you’ll do

• Carry out property inspections and plan preventative maintenance, identifying hazards and repairs before they become bigger issues.
• Complete routine minor repairs within your skills and authorisation, such as touch-up painting and basic upkeep of fixtures and fittings.
• Work with the Housing Co-ordinator to arrange approved trades and contractors for work outside the scope of the role, coordinate access and keep residents informed of planned works.
• Keep accurate records of inspections, maintenance requests, completed repairs and contractor visits.
• Assist residents with maintenance queries and respond to security or smoke alarm notifications in line with YMCA procedures.
• Provide occasional cleaning and caretaker relief, including upkeep of shared facilities and bin areas.

What you’ll bring

You're a practical problem solver who can manage a varied workload, communicate respectfully with residents and take safety seriously. You'll be comfortable working across multiple sites, keeping clear records and recognising when a job needs to be referred to a licensed professional.

Experience in property maintenance, facilities or caretaking will help you settle into the role. You'll also share our commitment to safe practices, confidentiality and safeguarding children and young people.

The role may involve after-hours response arrangements as reasonably required. Any applicable payment will be managed in accordance with the relevant industrial instrument and YMCA arrangements.
