Job summary

Australian Industry Group Apprentice and Trainee Centre is seeking a Machinist Apprentice to join a host company delivering cutting-edge automation solutions for food and beverage industries across Australia, New Zealand, and beyond. The role includes interpreting drawings, setting up lathes, manual mills, and CNC machines, and ensuring part quality from day one.

You will be mentored by industry professionals, with training toward a nationally recognised Certificate III in Mechanical

Qualifications

  • Examining and understanding detailed drawings and specifications to determine the requirements for the task.
  • Operating and adjusting metalworking machines (lathe and manual mill) to create parts or tools by turning, boring, milling, shaping, slotting, grinding, or drilling metal stock or components.
  • Using various techniques which include welding, bolting, and riveting to align, assemble, and fix pieces together to create parts and structures.
  • Setting up and operating hand and machine tools, welding equipment, and CNC machines.
  • Ensuring accuracy and quality of finished parts, tools, or sub-assemblies.

Responsibilities

  • Examine drawings to determine task requirements and prepare setups.
  • Operate lathe, manual mill, and CNC machines to manufacture parts.
  • Weld, bolt, and rivet components to assemble assemblies.
  • Maintain quality and precision of finished parts.

As a Machinist Apprentice, your duties may include;

  • Examining and understanding detailed drawings and specifications to determine the requirements for the task
  • Operating and adjusting metalworking machines (lathe and manual mill) to create parts or tools by turning, boring, milling, shaping, slotting, grinding, or drilling metal stock or components
  • Using various techniques which include welding, bolting, and riveting to align, assemble, and fix pieces together to create parts and structures
  • Setting up and operating hand and machine tools, welding equipment, and CNC machines
  • Ensuring accuracy and quality of finished parts, tools, or sub-assemblies

Current 1st Year and 2nd Year Mechanical Engineering Apprentices are encouraged to apply.

Location: Adelaide Airport

Hours: Monday to Friday 7.00am - 3.00pm

About you:
  • Must be an Australian Citizen or permanent resident with the right to work in Australia
  • Minimum completion of Year 10 High School
  • Certificate II Engineering (desirable)
  • Driver's License and reliable transport
  • Willing to undertake police check and pre-employment medical if required
  • Positive, can-do attitude with a strong focus on safety
  • A mechanical aptitude
