Australian Industry Group Apprentice and Trainee Centre is partnering with Philmac in North Plympton to offer a Toolmaker Apprentice role. You will learn to read detailed drawings, operate metalworking machines, and work with CNC and welding equipment to produce precise parts and tools.

The apprenticeship runs for four years, with training fees and PPE provided, plus mentoring and access to financial support.

Qualifications

• Must have Australian citizenship or permanent residency to work in Australia.
• Minimum completion of Year 11 High School.
• Ability to operate an overhead crane and work with metalworking equipment.

Responsibilities

• Learn to interpret drawings and specifications to determine task requirements.
• Operate and adjust metalworking machines to produce parts and tools.
• Use hand and machine tools, welding equipment and CNC machines.
• Cut, thread, bend and install hydraulic and pneumatic lines.
• Ensure accuracy and quality of finished parts or sub-assemblies.
• Operate lathes, machining centres, sheet metal folders and benders.
• Learn various welding practices including MIG, TIG and Stick.

About The Role

Our Host Employer, Philmac based in North Plympton, has been working since 1929 to innovate and design plastic performance pipe systems. Philmac’s range of poly fittings and valves are designed to withstand Australia’s harsh environment and their Adelaide plant is continuing to grow their success.

Adding a Toolmaker Apprentice to their workforce, you will:

• Learn to examine and understand detailed drawings and specifications to determine the requirements for the task


• Operate and adjust metalworking machines to create parts or tools by turning, boring, milling, shaping, slotting, grinding, or drilling metal stock or components


• Use hand and machine tools, welding equipment and CNC machines


• Cut, thread, bend, and install hydraulic and pneumatic pipes and lines


• Ensure accuracy and quality of finished parts, tools, or sub-assemblies


• Operate lathes, machining centres, sheet metal folders, and benders


• Learn a wide variety of welding practices including MIG, TIG, and Stick welding

Monday – Friday, 7.00am – 3.00pm
