Job summary

Latrobe City Council in Morwell, Victoria, is seeking a Local Laws Officer - Traffic & Compliance to join our Local Laws team on a permanent, full-time basis.

You will educate, engage and enforce Local Laws, build relationships with residents and businesses, and participate in CBD parking patrols and on-site compliance tasks across the municipality.

Qualifications

• Interpret, apply and enforce relevant legislation, Local Laws and Council policies.
• Strong communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills with a commitment to customer-focused service delivery.
• Ability to undertake field-based work including CBD parking patrols and compliance matters.
• Willingness to undertake study to obtain relevant qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Work collaboratively with community members to resolve concerns through education, guidance and compliance activities.
• Develop positive relationships with residents and businesses using negotiation and communication skills.
• Promote a professional, approachable and customer-focused image of Council within the community.
• Respond to customer requests, maintain records and contribute to Local Laws team operations.
• Interpret and enforce relevant legislation, policies and Local Laws as required.
• Participate in emergency after-hours roster and conduct parking patrols across the municipality.

Morwell, Victoria | Full Time - 38 Hours per week

Permanent | Band 5 $80,810.26 - $92,898.75 plus 12% superannuation

We're looking for a Local Laws Officer - Traffic & Compliance to join our Local Laws team. In this role, you'll help enhance the quality of life across Latrobe City by promoting community understanding, compliance and ownership of Council Local Laws and relevant legislation through education, engagement and professional enforcement activities.

What You'll Be Doing

About You

You are passionate about customer service and enjoy working directly with people to achieve positive outcomes. You bring a balanced approach to compliance, combining education, communication and sound judgement to resolve issues effectively.

You are highly organised, able to manage competing priorities and comfortable working independently in the community. You enjoy building relationships, maintaining accurate records and applying legislation in a practical and professional manner.

Key Selection Criteria

• Demonstrated ability to interpret, apply and enforce relevant legislation, Local Laws and Council policies.
• Strong communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills with a commitment to customer-focused service delivery.
• Ability to undertake field-based work, including CBD parking patrols, and manage a variety of compliance matters.
• Post-trade certificate, post-secondary qualification, Certificate IV Civic Compliance, Certificate IV Animal Control and Regulation, or willingness to undertake study to obtain relevant qualifications.
