Victoria Police Air Wing seeks a skilled Line Pilot for AW139 helicopters to perform NVIS/IFR operations, winching and rapid deployment tasks from Essendon Airfield. The role supports policing, surveillance and tactical missions across Australia and internationally where required.

Applicants must have extensive turbine helicopter hours, an instrument rating, NVIS experience, and a current Class 1 medical. The position includes a competitive salary, heavy shift work, and generous leave provisions.

About the role:

Victoria Police Air Wing operates single pilot multi engine AW 139 NVIS & IFR helicopters completing a wide range of tasks including Search and Rescue, Tactical deployment of Special Operation Group personnel, general support to policing, surveillance and many other tasks. The helicopters are fully NVG equipped and are fitted with advanced equipment including; Fastrope devices, winch, FLIR, and a downlink. As a pilot you will participate in winching, fast roping/rappelling, airborne sniper operations, NVG operations and a wide range of tactical police operations. The Victoria Police Air Wing is based at Essendon Airfield in a large modern complex.

Air Wing operates under CASA fatigue management conditions. Rostering includes 10 and 12 hour shifts. 12 hour shifts involve two day shifts followed by two night shifts. 10 hour shifts involve an average of 80 hours per fortnight with 6 rostered rest days.

Requirements and relevant information:

• Salary range $155,601 - $164,913 a. + superannuation + $57,374 Flying Operations Allowance (depending on experience).
• This position requires shift work.
• The successful applicant will be required to undergo National Security Vetting, achieve and maintain a security classification as determined by the Department Head. To achieve this, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
• The applicant must be a citizen or permanent resident of Australia or entitled to this status under Co mmonwealth law, or is a New Zealand citizen who has a special category visa or entitled to be granted a special category visa under the Migration Act 1958 of the Commonwealth.
• The successful applicant will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
• Successful applicants will be required to join Victoria Police as a sworn police officer after completing initial training at the Police Academy Glen Waverley, hold a current Victoria Drivers Licence and hold or qualify for an appropriate Victoria Police driving authority within three (3) months.
• Intrastate and interstate travel will be required.
• Shortlisted applicants will be required to attend medical and psychological testing.
