Job summary

Randstad is looking for multiple Mechanical Tradespeople to join a Newcastle-based rail workshop, refurbishing passenger train rolling stock. You will operate machines, build and overhaul brake systems, and service wheel sets as part of a hands-on team.

The role offers $61-$65 per hour (casual), rotating day and afternoon shifts with 15% loading for afternoons, machine-specific training, immediate start, and potential for permanent employment.

Qualifications

• Mechanical trade qualification in light vehicle, mechanical fitting, or heavy vehicle disciplines.
• Able to work rotating day and afternoon shifts.
• Forklift and dogging tickets are highly regarded.
• Must pass Rail Category Medical.
• Strong teamwork and communication abilities.
• Excellent references to support your application.

Responsibilities

• Participate in refurbishing rolling stock in a Newcastle workshop.
• Operate machine tools, including lathes and borers.
• Build and overhaul brake systems.
• Strip and reassemble wheel sets for rail equipment.
• Mount and overhaul bearings.
• Collaborate as part of a dynamic maintenance team.

Our client is a leading provider of transport maintenance services across Australia. Due to ongoing contracts, we are seeking multiple skilled Mechanical Tradespeople to be based in their Newcastle based Workshop.

What's Involved?

• Production environment of refurbishing rolling stock for passenger trains
• Machine Operating - Lathes and Borers
• Build and overhaul brake systems
• Strip and reassemble wheel sets from the Rail Industry
• Mount and overhaul bearings
• Operating a wide range of hand and power tools
• Collaborating as part of a dynamic team

What We're Looking For:

• Mechanical Trade Qualification - Light Vehicle Mechanics, Mechanical Fitters or Heavy Vehicle Mechanics
• Must be able to work rotating day and afternoon shift
• A great attitude and willingness to learn
• Forklift and Dogging ticket highly regarded
• Must be able to pass a Rail Category Medical
• Strong teamwork and communication skills
• Excellent references to support your application
